Basel have today announced that manager Urs Fischer has resigned his post citing a lack of ambition on the part of the board. It is unknown at this point who will replace Fischer, with names such as former Brighton manager Gus Poyet and current defender Walter Samuel being made favorites by the bookmakers.
Basel have today appointed young Englishman Charlie Pumfrey as first team manager. Pumfrey, is a relative unknown on the European stage having worked mainly in the finance side of organisations. The appointment has been met with some derision in the clubs fan base with many feeling as though the club needed an experienced hand to move forward with. It has not been announced yet as to any changes Pumfrey will make to his backroom staff or to the playing staff.
Breel Embolo - 18 - Swiss - Winger/Striker The young Swiss forward is the future of the club, if we can hang onto him that is.
Zdravko Kuzmanovic - 27 - Serbian - Midfielder The Serbian playmaker was brought back to the club by my predecessor and should prove to be a real asset on the European stage.
Mohamed El-Neny - 22 - Egyptian - Midfielder The Egyptian ball winner is already too good for this league but has the potential to drive us on in Europe.
No Longer Required
Phillip Degen - 32 - Swiss - Full Back He may not yet be gone but he doesn't offer anything as there are better, younger players in his position and at this point he offers little utilisation.
The rest of the squad are all required for this season if we are to succeed to the level I deem suitable.
