Yes - Retain him as a CB and he is quality.

raguman... if you don't mind cheating, add another manager to the game, make a loan offer for him and then complete the loan and retire with that new manager.

I bought him for my Bristol City save specifically with the aim of converting him to CB. He was good enough for my league winning team alongside Kjaer, but not quite solid enough. Just the odd mistake and problem with positioning, and I ended up replacing him with a regen. For his probable price among the best in the game.
