Hello all...

This is my first stab at a story. I've selected my adopted European team - Borussia Dortmund to start. But I won't be myself! I've decided to put Dortmund goalkeeping legend Stefan Klos at the helm!

I am looking to dominate Europe with this team in around 4 or 5 seasons, they have an amazing foundation to build on. All they need is a couple of decent back up players (there is quite a large gulf between first teamer's and the bench IMO but there are some top young talents such as Leitner, Hofmann and Durm) and they should be able to compete for the Champions League on a regular basis.

What I'm really looking for in the first season is to at least compete for the Bundesliga and reach the quarters of the Champions League and really, if I can, tie down Lewandowski to a long term contract. IF NOT - then I've decided to let his contract run down for the year and not cash in on him. I believe he can take us to the heights this season and set a good base for a replacement striker to come in. Of course it'll be difficult to replace a player of his calibre, but I believe I can do so.

From then, I'm hoping to be winning the league in the 2nd or 3rd season again, wrestling it from the domination of Bayern and going for the Champions League. I am basing my team on young, technical, attack-minded players and at a preference to have them German whenever I look to bring someone new in. But experience is also vital, especially for Europe, so will be looking to retain players like the two 'Mr. Dortmund's' Roman Weidenfeller and Sebastien Kehl.

Here goes, starting off with the introductory post (I'm at work at the moment with some immense downtime, so I'll post the first proper update tonight!!)...

DORTMUND CONFIRM KLOPP DEPARTURE

In a move that has sent shockwaves down European football, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the imminent departure of Jurgen Klopp. Klopp cited "personal family reasons" as why he would be stepping down, and has cancelled himself out of the managerial world for at least a season. Speaking to Sport-Bild, Klopp issued this statement;

"My head currently isn't in it to manage a Third Division team, let alone a world class team like Dortmund. I must step down. I have recently been through a lot of family problems recently and I just need some time out. I wish all the best to the club for the future and know that they will only accept a renowned international manager to replace me."

The rumours have already started as to who will replace Klopp, with the likes of Diego Simone, Andre Villas-Boas and Joachim Low heading the betting world's favorites boards.

There's the intro done! First real post will come tonight, with the appointment of Klos, the pre-season programme, ins & outs (or is there any?), German Super Cup against Bayern Munich and the future of the big players...

Please note there will be pictures and text colour in future posts! I'm just at work at the moment hence why this first post is pretty basic.

And of course, any feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Good luck mate. I had a great save with Dortmund in FM13. Won the Bundesliga 18 times in 20 years as well as 3 Champions League titles.

Cheers mate, if I have even half as much success as you I'll be happy! Brilliant stats.

NEW DORTMUND BOSS APPOINTED

Dortmund Roll Back The Years To Appoint Klos

Borussia Dortmund have today confirmed the appointment of ex-goalkeeper Stefan Klos as replacement for Jurgen Klopp. Klos has said he is absolutely delighted to be back at the club he loves and is still revered at.

"I am really happy to be here. I feel that as much as I'm an inexperienced manager, I can take this club to the higher levels of football. We were so close last season with the Bundesliga and Champions League and I think we have the capability to go one further in the coming seasons."

Klos has confirmed his vision of playing attacking football and retaining the majority of his highly talented, but highly saught-after squad.

Dortmund's pre-season programme has also been confirmed, with trips to Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting Lisbon and Super Cup match against Bayern Munich in amongst matches against Paderborn and Braga along with the 1st Round of the German Cup.

A Very Mixed Pre-Season...

KLOS: "I'M RELATIVELY HAPPY, BUT STILL WORK TO BE DONE"

Pre-Season For Dortmund Not So Simple As Expected

Borussia Dortmund have completed their pre-season schedule, and Stefan Klos has stated that whilst he is 'happy' there is 'still some work to be done'. Here are the results.

PADERBORN 4 - 2 DORTMUND
Sahin (14), Ducksch (57)
Not sure what happened here. Played my full first team, with the almost patented 4-2-3-1 formation Dortmund line up with, but fell to the small boys! Still some positive to be taken with youngster Ducksch coming off the bench to score. This game also included an embarrassing own goal by Blazczykowski.

Best player: Sahin (8.30)

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 0 - 0 DORTMUND
A bit better, but still would've liked a goal! Set to be an entertaining, high attacking game, ended in a bore draw. A solid defensive display from Sokratis and Weidenfeller kept Ibra, Cavani and company out.

Best player: Weidenfeller (7.10)

SPORTING LISBON 5 - 0 DORTMUND
A quite horrific performance. I put out my 2nd string side, and it shows the absolute gulf in talent between the first team and the back ups. Langerak was terrible, as was the rest of the defence. Definitely no best player in this one! Klos hammered Langerak after this, telling him he has to perform to a much higher standard if he wants to make the step up.

BRAGA 0 - 3 DORTMUND
Coelho (og, 36), Schieber (42), Hofmann (72)
The mini-tour of Portugal ends in victory, finally! It seems that my younger attacking players are out-performing my usuals in pre-season. This one made me think!

Best player: Schieber (8.30)

And onto the big one...

DORTMUND BEAT RIVALS TO LIFT THE GERMAN SUPER CUP

View attachment 434011

Borussia Dortmund have won the German Super Cup with an emphatic 3-0 victory over rivals Bayern Munich, with Klos beating Guardiola at the first time of asking. Despite Bayern having more shots on goal, their 12 compared to Dortmund's 9, it was the yellow side of Germany which came up trumps.

Superstar defender Mats Hummels got Dortmund off to a fine start when he converted a 33 minute penalty. Robert Lewandowski then scored at the killer moment; in the one added minute before half time. Bayern went into the dressing room looking deflated, and all Dortmund had to do was kill them off. And they did exactly that, with Marco Reus finishing the scoring on 58 minutes.

Player of the match Jakub Blaszczykowski finished the game with assisting all 3 goals, and making key passes and crosses all over the field, really troubling Bayern.

Dortmund manager Stefan Klos stated at the final whistle: "Whilst it's not the biggest trophy in the world, I'm very happy to have won some silverware already in my short career, especially over our greatest rivals. There is no better feeling in the world. I think when you win it as a manager it feels better compared to a player!"

German Cup 1st Round Draw Pairs Dortmund with non-league Wilhelmshaven
Dortmund finished off their pre-season campaign with a big win against Wilhelmshaven in the 1st round of the German Cup as a real statement of intent in this competition. Stats below.

WILHELMSHAVEN 0 - 6 DORTMUND
Reus (12, 41), Hummels (23), Lewandowski (30, 83) & Subotic (55)
I played my first team here as not only as a statement of intent, but as a confidence booster due to our pretty poor pre-season. The Bayern result aside, I really wanted more. But this turned it all around for me! Lewa was on fire, as were our defence. The home side were completely nervous and rattled for all 90 minutes.

Best player: Reus (9.50)

PLAYER OF PRE-SEASON
Jakub Blaszczykowski
bvb_don_celeb_kuba_628.jpg

Such a solid player, heavily underlined in the Bayern game. 3 assists in that game alone, along with 2 others in the Cup match, he was brilliant. He almost instantly put the own goal shocker against Paderborn behind him. Whilst Hummels, Lewandowski and Reus put the goals in, he was the creator and I cannot overlook his importance in this team. Long may it continue!

Introducing - The Borussia Dortmund Squad. Plus: Klos Announces New Signing (sort of)

The 2013/14 Borussia Dortmund Squad

We caught up with Stefan Klos to run through the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp and his hopes for them in the season.

GOALKEEPERS

Roman Weidenfeller, Mitchell Langerak & Johannes Focher

"Obviously Roman is my number one and my captain. He is Mr Dortmund. I still feel he can be my number one for the next couple of seasons and I have no intention of changing that just yet. Mitchell still needs time, but he can be my back up for this season. I have challenged him to make the step up to the first team in pre-season and I await him to rise to that challenge. With Johannes, he again has got good potential, but he won't be a big player for me this season. Perhaps loaning him out is an option for us."

DEFENDERS

Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic, Lukasz Piszczek, Kevin Grosskreutz, Marcel Schmelzer, Sokratis, Erik Durm, and Marc Hornschuh

"Looking at my defence, it is very solid. Hummels is our engine not only in defence but also going forward especially for corners and can take a good penalty. Subotic is again a warrior; we have the best central defensive pairing in the league. It's unfortunate that Piszczek is injured for the majority of the season, so I'm looking at Grosskreutz to step up as right back and have Schmelzer as my left back. I also have high hopes for Erik Durm and believe he can make the step up to the first team."

MIDFIELDERS

Ilkay Gundogan, Nuri Sahin, Sven Bender, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sebastien Kehl and Oliver Kirch

"Once again, I see that our midfield is just incredible. Gundogan is my go-to guy, as he's still young and has the potential to turn into a world beater for us. Jakub has been brilliant for me in pre-season and I believe he will remain in that right sided position for years to come. We currently have Sahin in on loan from Real Madrid, and if he puts in consistently good performances for us this season, we will activate his ?5m agreement with Madrid to buy him permanently. Mkhitaryan has been injured this pre-season, so he will need to work on his fitness, but when he is fully fit I'm sure he will be a big player for us this season too.

ATTACKERS

Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jonas Hofmann, Julian Schieber and Marvin Ducksch

"Of course the big question is can we re-sign Robert to a longer contract? I would love to, and will be working on doing that before January. We don't want to see him leave here, and if we can make a strong start, I think we will want to re-sign. Marco and Pierre are a dangerous set of players too. Marco is without a doubt the best attacking left sided player in the Bundesliga right now, but I need to get rid of that ?29m release clause in his contract as he is worth way more than that!"

TACTIC
"I will be mainly playing a 4-5-1 formation, but will revert to 4-2-3-1 at home against the lesser teams to really go on a gun-ho attack. 4-5-1 is good for me and the team, as I can use all of my fantastic central midfielders all at once without unhappiness in the squad. I believe with having Gundogan, Sahin and Bender on the pitch at the same time will cause so many problems for the opposition. And of course, Henrikh can play in the central midfield position too. My attacking wingers of Reus and Jakub will complement Lewa up-front perfectly to guide in crosses to our big man. The centre back pairing of Hummels and Subotic with Weidenfeller behind him couldn't be more solid. Lastly, I plan to use Grosskreutz and Schmelzer as wing backs to get forward when we're on the ball and also to break quickly for when we're on the counter attack."

BREAKING NEWS!!!
ILKAY GUNDOGAN SIGNS NEW CONTRACT WITH DORTMUND

rma_bvb_gundogan_laugh_628.jpg

Stefan Klos has confirmed his first signing of his managerial career; managing to extend the contract of one of Europe's hottest prospects in Ilkay Gundogan. Gundogan has put pen to paper on a contract extending his stay at Signal Iduna Park until 2018 at least, with rumours of a weekly wage of ?65,000.

Speaking after a training session, Klos said; "There were two reasons why I decided to offer Ilkay a new contract. One, he only had until 2015 on his existing contract. Two, Barcelona and Madrid were pursuing him and I simply don't want to sell him or have him unsettled here. I challenged him to show his loyalty to this club and he's done just that by signing a new deal. I'm very happy about it and can start building around boys like him for my future vision at this club. Let's hope Robert will be tempted to do the same!"

NEXT POST TOMORROW NIGHT; THE BUNDESLIGA FINALLY STARTS, STILL NO NEW SIGNINGS...TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO BRING IN NEW FACES FOR KLOS!

Sorry for the really quick, long depth posts. I've really hit the ground running with this save and playing a bit of catch up at the moment but I'll finally be all caught up with tomorrow's post! Finally starting the league.

Round up: I haven't managed to acquire any signings due to the silly ratio between transfer budget and wage budget. I have around ?16m to play with, but only a wage bill of ?33k p/w! Not great if I hit an injury crisis, but that's why I have some of the best fitness coaches and physios in the game; to stop that before it happens. In all honesty, extending the contracts of my current crop of players takes a bit of priority over getting new boys in. I also really want to eradicate Reus' release clause in his contract but know that may be impossible!
