So A buddy of mine and me did this challenge, 5 years where can you take leeds, using the 10.0 database, but that really doesn't matter. 4 years into it he gave up trying to get to where I was, which in 5 years and 30+ challenges between us of us doing this is a first. He suggested I put up where I am and see if anybody can top it. So here goes. Will give more details in the first 2 years as those were key before I started dominating. For the first 3 years I only concentrated on the league and completely disregarded all other competitions.

Year 1.
Won the League 1. 31w, 9d, 6l = 102 pts.

Ebi Smolarek free, Henri Camara free, Vladimir Weiss loan, Markel (R. Sociedad) 275k, Nacer Barazite loan, Wojciech Szczesny 200k, Rafael Foster 65k, Thomas Mangani 625k, Kerrea Gilbert 625k, Francis Coquelin 60k.

Rui Marques, Jermaine Beckford, Alan Sheehan, Mike Grella, Andy Hughes, Lubomic Michalik, Tresor Kandol and released a bunch of people on free. This helped bring my salary down so I could pay Smolark and Camara.

Year 2.
Won the Championship. 23w, 14d, 9l = 83pts

Luciano Becchio 300k, Alan Martin 40k, David Prutton 120k, Robert Snodgrass 1.1m, and again a bunch of free transfers to bring down salary. A very limited squad.

Year 3.
13th in the premiership. 14w, 4d, 20l = 46pts
The first half of the season was rough, but I kept my finances in check, my stadium was expanded over the summer so I was profitable every month and got taken over by a new chairman who gave me some cash. All signings below were in the Jan window, didnt sign anybody or sell anybody over the summer to keep up momentum.

Michael Johnson 3.5m, Stephane Mbia 6.75m, Fausto Rossi 1.7m, Gareth Bale 15m, Breno 5.25m, Marek Hamsik 25m, Toni Kroos 9.5m. Emir Faccioli free, Stephani Okaka free, Bastian Schweinsteiger free, Vladimir Weiss free, Henri Saivet free, Davide Santon 34m, Stevan Jovetic 20m, Kdarvko Kuzmanovic 30m.
Sold.
Wojciech Szczesny 1.5m, Thomas Mangani 4.4m, Neil Kilkenny 2.5m and let Camara and Smolarek and Degen go for free at end of contract as the salaries were too high. Had to adjust transfer budget down by about 15m to pay some of the salaries of the people I signed.

Year 5.
Still active
Chairman gave me 100m to spend.
The first few years the finance is the most important thing. And I did a complete turn around with a whole new team including new reserves. Sold more than I bought because my youth facilities were upgraded and I bought a few youth on the cheap last year. If you dont play them they stay **** and I'm going into the Winter window with about 30m in the bank.

My buddy just won promotion into the premiership this year.

i won he prem by the 4th season and i received nowhere near the same amounts of money from the chairman

120 million is crazy.
Best I ever got was 45 million, after winning the league shockingly in my first season up there....


And with Leeds, when you're doing well, 9 times out of 10 Peter Lorimer takes over within 2 seasons.
Maybe he got lucky and a tycoon took over. Consortium is nice, but not that much money.

In my save, Everton got taken over by some middle eastern tycoon, 45 million stadium expansion, 210 million transfer budget and they spend it all (and still finished 8th, hahahahaha).

Yeah it was Peter Lorimer who took over. But I've realized if your making a profit every month as compared to making a loss every month you will get more money. Maybe something to do with the financial side of the game? who knows.
 
Well, when I play Leeds I usually end up with a VERY young squad (currently 4th season, average age 22.5), so I can keep my finances manageable with lower wages.
And after three or four seasons I pretty much have the squad I want for years to come, maybe one big signing at the start of the season and a handful of 1-4 million signings for great youngsters throughout.

As I have seen, most of the teams with gigantic budgets do quite poorly in the league because they end up buying players that they don't even need, ruining their chemistry and still finishing mid-table.

Case in point, Everton last season (as mentioned above, with a crazy 40 million for Walcott among others), or my favorite Chelsea, buying van der Vaart for 32 million, playing him ONCE FOR HALF A MATCH and selling him for 12 million at the end of the season. And no, he wasn't injured, they just bought him without even needing him.

Thats my general tactic. also, defend deep, play wide, fluid, attacking, more expresive creative freedom, but the key is that i let all 5 midfielders roam from position.
