I am looking at trying to recreate Brendan Rodgers diamond 442 tactic that he used regularly last season. I was wondering whether anyone had any advice on the tactic in general. I havent looked at sorting out the team or player instructions until I have the basic formation sorted.

At the moment I am unsure about the Lucas role and the partnership up top. I feel that if Lucas plays he will use that role but he rarely played last season so I am thinking changing that role from BWM defend to having two B2B midfielders in the middle.

At the moment that is what I think the best partnership for Suarez and Sturridge is. I have seen partnerships that include Treq role and the Poacher role but both of these dont use the players defensive work rate and Liverpool were so affective because everyone worked hard both with and without the ball.

If anyone has any advice on how they feel I could improve this formation I would be happy to hear it.

i personally hate this formation
as you know every formation have a weak and a strong side
obviously the weakness of this formation is the wings , if you played with a good teams as in the BPL you'll suffer from crossing
but to reduce the damage i suggest that you make your ( left and right ) back limited with defensive role so they don't attack cause they are your last defense line on the wings
but in the good side you will be abel to maintain the ball possession so i recommend to make a control mentality
with a instruction of control tactic like (retain possession . shorter passing ....)
and make sure to avoid playing on the wings
so that is what I think :)
hope that i helped
p.s : sorry about my english

Im not a fan of the tactic myself as I always like to play with width and have wingers. I am only trying to recreate the tactic that was used by Liverpool. I thought about making the full backs more defensive but they are the only players providing width when attacking and with this tactic you should be the dominating team so you want them getting forward a lot.

I have thought about player instructions and telling both strikers and the AM to move into channels and roam around so they naturally move into the wings to create more width for the team.

that is right, the full backs are the only players providing width when attacking but also the last defence line on the wings too
and for me you should think about defending and trying to don't consider goals before thinking about scoring goals
and for the players instructions if you told the strikers to move to wings who's gonna finish, the cross the GOALKEEPER !?? :P

I think you have to rely on the intelligence of your players to recognize where the space is. If Sturridge pulls out to the wing Suarez should be smart enough to know to look for space in the middle and vice versa. I dont think this is a tactic that could be used in the lower leagues or in poor foreign leagues as the players will not have the mental stats to do things like that.

well then you should have strikers with very good marking and finishing and maybe heading, but for me i don't rely on anything, i need to make sure of thing myself
anyway it could work after all :P , you should give it a shot
but you should think about what i said about defending it is highly important
and yes i don't think it is good for LLM cause players there are jerks they have NO intelligence

If I remember correctly, Raheem Sterling was playing at the tip of the diamond and was playing as a sort of shadow striker making penetrative runs into behind the space created by either Suarez or Sturridge. I'd make the AP and SS. Make sure you have the Play Wider shout on as well, you'll need it with a formation that narrow.

Suarez and Sturridge essentially did the same thing, but in turns. So I can see with you've made them both Complete Forwards.

I'd also make Gerrard a Half Back, to spread out the centre backs as they're needed to cover the wingbacks. I think Gerrard has the PPM killer balls so that could be useful.

The two CM's I'm really not sure. Two BBM's would leave you short in defence in my opinion. I'd probably go for a BBM and a BWM(S).
