Howdy - let me preface by saying I'm in a lower division, so I'm not expecting EPL level tactics to work quite the same way here.
I started out trying to work with a 4-1-2-3 DM Wide, but couldn't make that happen at all. So, next logical step is the 4-2-3-1 Wide which seems to offer me about evens at goals vs conceded. I've read a few threads around and modified the tactic, but still looking for improvement.
On the attacking side, I have a great play maker and would like to use him to provide creativity. I'd like my AML/AMR to be more than just wingers crossing the ball (I don't have much height up front), and would like them to make dangerous cuts inside or provide lethal passing options to my AP or AF. My striker actually has stats perfect for a defensive forward, but AF-A seems like the best role for now.
Defensively, my midfielders are high workrate (the team was built with a starting DM in mind) and I'd like them to play farther back, but still apply some pressure and win secondary balls. More importantly, they do a great job right now of providing safe passing options on both sides of the field. My CDs are a traditional role currently, while I think my fullbacks should still play somewhat conservative (given my lack of DM) but offer the occasional overlap.
One other note - I don't want to push my tempo up too much due to a small squad size, several internationals, and fixture congestion.
Really appreciate any assistance. If anyone has thoughts on a 4-1-2-3 DM Wide or similar formation, I'm open to changing tactics as well. Just trying to balance around my team.
