You're playing against big sides expected to win. They'll really come at you in the last 10-15 minutes if the scores are still level. What are you doing about it? What does your tactical setup look like?

Tactics/Mentality > Strength of squad.

I play direct/lots of pressing.

Doubt it's because my players get tired since in those games i almost always concede a cross/corner. Which is a sign that my players are not concentrated enough.

I wouldn't say it's because they're tired, but it may well be that your pressing system can't cope with all the runners.

Suggestions?
I can't give you anything concrete without seeing your tactic. Either improve the way you press or (the better route) lose "hassle opponents", as I'm sure you have that instruction, and rather add "Get Stuck In". You're already dropping mentality, so that's good too.

Go to my ASK UNCLE MAD thread there's advice on how to eradicate that (it hardly ever happens to me cos I follow the advice fnarfnar)

It has happened to my team against City and United, both scoring fantastic goals from distance in the 85+ minute.
I think its because my team is very young especially in defense

Ive read that, I always go more defensive when leading against stronger team, but both goals were amazing long shots which doesn't happen much often in the game.
I have made a lot of transfers and my defenders are young and still not used to playing together (well I hope this is the reason, nobody from SI is talking about this stuff)

Do you mind posting a screenie of your tactics here/in my thread together with what you do (if any) to prevent losing goals in the last minutes of matches?

I've always found that if you don't have a packed midfield, using 'hassle opponents' will leave gaps, especially if they are playing through the middle. This is turn makes the defenders come out to press which leaves gaps in the defences and behind them.

If you're leading late into the game I would suggest playing something like a 4-2-2-2. 2 DMs, 2 wingers and 2 strikers. Put the mentality to counter and rigid. Put stand off players, tackle harder, play narrower(Depending on where their attacks are coming from) play out of defence, tighter marking, direct passing, drop deeper and higher tempo. I'm not the best at FM but this always helps me defend late in the game. This is of course to counter and get men forward quickly. If you want to keep hold of the ball do retain possession, shorter passing, slower tempo etc.

1. The 424 which you are really advocating is too attacking for shutting up shop purposes.
2. Play out of defence instruction is not advisable in the last 5/10 mins even if you have very well skilled cbs.
3. Stand off doesnt work with tighter marking.

I would look at changing two things:

(a) Around the 80th minute - the formation: put anchorman defend in front of the cbs/pull back wbs in fb position with defend instruction etc - and player instructions: perhaps man mark an amc/their star player
(b) On the 84th minute: the team instructions - no pass into space/no play out of defence - CONTAIN + drop deeper (if opposition much better then very deep line), play narrower, hassle opponents (if other team much better this is substituted with stand off), waste time, retain possession, clear ball to flanks, exploit the flanks, play even safer.

What are your teams determination stats like? I think that is the biggest indicator in close games as well as playing a team perceived to be better than you.
