Low Morale and No Wage

Hi I have just bought this game and havent played any of the previous games so im in need of some help... Some of my players have low morale and their names are greyed out on the squad list. When I look at their profile it shows they dont receive a wage. It wont let me change this as the only option it gives me is Attributes, am I missing something really obvious or have I messed up along the way. Thanks

They arent real

they appear when you dont have enough players in your squad in a certain position, eg if you only had 1 gk you would get a grey gk appear as backup, but if you signed a backup he would dissapear.

All the grey players you have tend be unplayabley bad so dont bother with them unless you really need them

It is possible to sign them where they become 'real' and wont just dissapear
