Lucky Ajax

Today was the first full training session with the first team. First we started with a few 100 yard sprints to see who had pace in this team. Two players really stood out, Richairo Zivkovic and Ruben Ligeon. Zivkovic is a 17 year old striker who we just signed from Gronigen, and people say he is one of the best young forwards in the world. Ligeon is a 22 year old right back who came through our youth academy but hasn't really made an impact on the first team because of van der Wiel and now van Rhijn. Both of these boys have electrifying speed, Zivkovic will absolutely kill Eredivisie defenses with that kind of pace.

Next up we did some technical drills to see who has the ball skills to create goals. Again, in this area two players stood out: Ricardo Kishna and Lucas Anderson. Kishna is 19 years old and plays on the left wing, Andersen is 19 as well and plays either attacking midfielder centrally or on the right wing. These two kids have some serious talent in their boots, and both will be key players with the 6 month injury for Viktor Fischer.

After a few hours of training, I picked out the players who will be key this season.

Richairo Zivkovic - ST(C)

Even though he is a bit of a raw talent at 17 years old, there is no doubt about his quality. Richairo is a complete forward even at his young age. He'll be the first team striker and hopefully will develop to be a club legend.

Jasper Cillessen - GK

Jasper is a young, confident goalkeeper and the best in the Eredivisie. His role as starting keeper in the World Cup helped him develop massively.

Lasse Schöne - M(C)

Mr. Consistent. He doesn't have the greatest technical skills, but he is well rounded and will dictate play and keep possession of the ball.

Now I have an idea of every player's ability, although training can be different than actual matches. We're starting preseason very soon and I'll be able to more accurately judge the players afterwards.

This is how I'll have the team line-up during preseason. I believe having a defensive mid protecting the back four is incredibly important.

My first ever Ajax game goes well. Like I said, Zivkovic cannot be contained and we comfortably beat Ligue 1 side EA Guingamp.

Another resounding victory and another Zivkovic brace. Good win against a pretty solid team.

Zivkovic getting on the scoresheet again, but Milik gets the brace this time. I'm pleased to see our team is gelling and the attack is scoring freely.

The biggest test of preseason against Liga BBVA champions and Champions League finalists, and we completely outclass them.

A result here against our South African affiliate club was never in question.

The Ajax CT match concluded an incredible friendly, where we outscored opponents 24 to 5. If our friendlies are anything to go by, our attack will be on fire this season while our defense is pretty solid.

Ajax saves are always Great fun!

I usually do one every year. Denswill is an absolute beast! Ended up selling him in 3rd season to Man Utd last year for £28 Million.

Good luck!

Thank you! I had one last year too which was awesome.

Ouch 2 key injuries! Extremely unlucky. Hopefully you can pick up 2 quality players.

Very nice story so far! Guess the title of the story should be changed to unlucky Ajax with those injuries :/

Here are our transfer dealings this window. First we'll start with those who left Ajax.

Transfers Out

The two major departures were Kolbeinn Sigporsson and Niklas Moisander. Both of them were backups in my tactic but had key player squad statuses, so I had to sell them before they got unhappy.

Transfers In

Bilal Ould-Chikh - AM(RL)

A young Dutch winger who we signed for compensation. He'll get a lot of games with the long injury of Ricardo Kishna. Ould-Chikh has incredible potential.

Kristoffer Ajer - M(C)

For 1k this deal is incredible. I lonaed him back to Start for the rest of the season so he could get first team games.

Matias Kranevitter - DM

We had no natural DMs so I signed Kranevitter pretty cheaply from River. He has great potential and very impressive mental attributes.

Paulo Dybala - ST

I had to make this signing after the injury to Zivkovic. His value has already gone up since we signed him, so we should make good profit on him in a season or two

Here's how my first month of competitive fixtures in charge of Ajax went

And here's an overview of the month. The Super Cup match was played in late July.

Overall I'm pleased with the month. We won 5 out of 6 games and kept clean sheets in all of our victories. The PSV game was disappointing but very unlucky, we dominated them but we couldn't score and Depay put away a half-chance, showing his quality. Great month, and hopefully it continues. This is where we were in the league after the 5 games:

Willem II are surprisingly in 1st, but I doubt their form will last.

Jeez! Willem II in 1st haha! That has amused me for a while, while I sit disappointed at spurs getting beat at half time by hull! :P

I need to catch up this story to my game, so this update will be a long one, all the way up to the winter break for Eredivisie.

Eredivisie

So far so good in the Eredivisie. Aside from two disappointing defeats, our team is really tearing up the league. The last defeat against Twente was so frustrating, first Denswil got sent off right before half time, then another CB van der Hoorn got sent off right after half time and they scored a 90th minute winner.

Champions League

I said I wanted to do better in Europe, but the group we were given really gave us no chance. We competed with all these teams, in the last 3 games we only lost by 1 goal.

View attachment 325818

I don't even know what happened against Dordrecht. We dominated them but they benefitted from 2 own goals.

Amazing job so far in the Eredivisie, you are really dominating there! Too bad about the Champions League but like you said your group was very strong so it is quite understandable.

Dortmund have found themselves in 5th place in the Bundesliga. Frank de Boer has been sacked and they have approached me to take over. Should I do it?
