This may have been asked already but I couldn't find it.

I'm Barca and I want Puyol to retire next year so I can bring in Cheillini. He has a three year contract and I like him to much not to make him a starter. I'm not going to sell him or release him. Is there anyway I can tell him he's too old or do I just have to keep him?

Thanks

If you keep him on the bench and dont play him he will eventually retire. But it may take 2 seasons to do this but eventually he will retire. What i suggest is offer him a coaching role and eventually phase him out of the team. Only play him in an odd match to rest Cheillini.

Offer him a new contract that is only a year long? Normally when really old players are getting to the end of their contracts, they can call time on their career.

You might have to fork out a bit more cash, or even a bit less, you never know, but in the long run you would be saving money.

Bench him for a while, and have him tutor youngsters - you don't want Puyol to retire before passing his wisdom on.

Making Puyol retire? Chiellini's a left back. Puyol is far more useful than you think (his mentals are insane)
