Following the Resignation of Sir Alex Ferguson last week, the Manchester United board have officially announced the appointment Brian McClair as the new Manager. In 11 years at Old Trafford, McClair made a total of 468 appearances and scored 126 goals in all competitions.
In later years, as his first team opportunities were reduced, McClair became somewhat of a cult hero at United due to his 'Choccy's Diary' being published in the official 'Manchester United' magazine. Brian left Man Utd in 1998 for Motherwell on a Free but hung up his boots after just 11 games. McClair rejoined Man Utd's backroom staff in 2001 progressive to Reserve Team Manager and more recently director of United's Youth Academy.

i recommend dzeko, van der vaart and adler/akinfeev as signings :)

well, he did pretty good job for me. 27apps, 17goals 10assist. avg rating of 7.27. Plus he would be available at relatively cheap price

ive never tried him on fm10 because i had such a bad experience on fm09, with everton 23 appearences 2 goals i bought him in august sold in january

I have only had him since January (Just finished season) 28 apps 25 Goals :D

Pre season

Brian McClair took his first foray into the Transfer market and completed the signings of former Old Trafford favourites David Beckham & Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Beckham signs from LA Galaxy for £500k. Beckham left Old Trafford in 2003 for Real Madrid, largely due to numerous bust-ups with then Manager Sir Alex Ferguson. While most are happy with the signing, Antonio Valencia has declared himself unhappy due to the competition for places on the Right Wing.

Van Nistelrooy also left for Real Madrid and upon him resigning for the Red Devils, recently departed Sir Alex Ferguson backed McClairs decision to bring back Ruud.

Pre Season Results:

Bury 0 - 5 MAN UTD
(Tosic, Owen, Giggs (2), Macheda)
Morton 0 - 5 MAN UTD
(Owen, Scholes, Fletcher (2), Giggs)
Dundee Utd 0 - 4 MAN UTD
(Rooney (2), Beckham, Giggs)
Newcastle Town 0 - 5 MAN UTD
(Anderson, Owen, Welbeck, Scholes, Giggs)
Antwerp 0 - 5 MAN UTD
(Rooney (3), Macheda, Fletcher)

August

And so to the season curtain opener. League Champions Man United take on F.A Cup Winners Chelseas at Wembley.

MAN UTD 2- 0 Chelsea (Community Shield)
(Owen (2))
An an end to end battle, but United's front line looked incredible, new signing Owen volleyed in from Rooneys left wing cross on 30 minutes and doubled his tally halfway through the 2nd half after a good seeking ball through from Ryan Giggs.

**NANI UNHAPPY WITH MCCLAIR REFUSAL**
On Tuesday 11th August, man Utd rejected a £5.5 Million bid from Real Madrid for NANI. The player is reportedly unhappy with Manager Brian mcClair for not allowing him to speak with Real madrdi officials about a possible move.

Man City 5 - 4 MAN UTD
(Owen, Nani, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy)
United were up against it from the off as Tevez put City in front after just 3 minutes and the teams went in 4-2 at HT. Tevez got a Hat-Trick against his former club accompanied by 2 goals for Robinho.

MAN UTD 1 - 1 Chelsea
(Brown)
It looked good for United as Brown headed in from a Beckham corner after 30 minutes, but Drogba provided the ammunition Chelsea needed to salvage a draw.

West Ham 1 - 4 MAN UTD
(Rooney (2), Van Nistelrooy, Giggs)
At last a first win of the season for United and a resounding one too at Upton Park as United dominated from start to finish with West Hams only goal coming 6 minutes from time from Carlton Cole.

MAN UTD 3 - 0 Portsmouth
(Vidic, Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand)
Vidic made his first start of the season coming back from injury and United looked especially grateful with a clean sheet and another dominant win.

**UNITED FACE SPORTING IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE**
Man United will travel to Portugal in the Group Stage of the Champions League to face Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Kiev and Russian side Rubin complete the group.

In the League Cup Man United have been drawn away to Preston North End in the 3rd Round

September

Sunderland 0 - 1 MAN UTD
(Van Nistelrooy)

Despite dominating the majority of the game, United struggled to a 1-0 win with van Nistelrooys's early goal the only difference.

MAN UTD 2 - 1 Sporting Lisbon (Champions League #1)
(Van Nistelrooy (2))
Fantastic start for United in the Champions League and Van Nistelrooy is on fire at the minute with another 2 goals.

MAN UTD 2 - 3 Liverpool
(Rooney, Van Nistelrooy)
A first home league defeat of the season to a Gerrard inspired Liverpool side who were 3-0 up before Half-Time. United hit back in the 2nd half but it was not enough.

Preston NE 2 - 2 MAN UTD AET (Preston win 5-4 on pens)

League Cup 3rd Round
(Fletcher (2))
A bad week got worse at Deepdale as holders united were dumped out of the Cup. Highly uneventful, it stayed 0-0 until 70 minutes when Preston went ahead. Substitute Fletcher equalised and sent to Extra Time when again preston took the lead only for Fletcher to level again. Vidic missed the 5th penalty as Preston progress.

Birmingham 0 - 2 MAN UTD
(Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand)

Back to winning ways but again not in the most convincing fashion. United led most of the game 1-0 and Ferdinand made sure firing in from a tight angle on 90 minutes.

Dynamo Kiev 4 - 2 MAN UTD (Champions League #2)
(Van Nistelrooy, Owen)
The last game of the month pretty much summed up the previous 31 days. Dynamo raced into a 2-0 lead, soon though Van Nistelrooy, then a cheeky lob from Owen levelled up for United but with Kiev's Miloyszki running wild and grabbing a Hat-Trick as Kiev run out 4-2 winners.
