200px-Shota_Arveladze.jpg

Following a disappointing 8th place finish in the Turkcell SuperLig, Kayserispor moved to appoint Shota Arveladze, the AZ Alkmaar assistant boss at just 37 years of age.

Arveladze enjoyed a great career as a player, scoring 296 goals in 456 games in domestic football for clubs such as Rangers, AZ, Ajax and Trabzonspor whilst hitting 26 goals in 60 games for Georgia to claim the title as Georgia's all time record goalscorer.

However, this could be seen as a huge gamble by Kayseri as Arveladze has had no managerial experience at all - his only coaching job was at AZ as assistant to his former Rangers boss **** Advocaat.

It has been rumoured that Arveladze could tempt Kris Boyd into a move to Turkey but interest is high in England, whilst Arveladze's former Rangers teammates Arthur Numan, Frank De Boer and Tore Andre Flo could join the Kayseri coaching team.

Next up - The Kayseri squad.

Good luck

Arveladze has backroom reshuffle

Shota Arveladze's Kayserispor revolution has begun to take shape - though it seems to consist of a Rangers twilight world.

To begin, Arveladze agreed to terminate the contracts of three members of his backroom staff; Munir Yildirim, Ahmet Izgi and Alper Kelkitli all left the club, each receiving severance payments of £45,000. To replace these, Arveladze moved to bring in some of his former Rangers teammates.

Firstly, Dutch coach Arthur Numan joined after a 9 year absence from football since his departure from Rangers as a player.

Then former Rangers defender Jerome Bonnissel also came as a coach having been unattached.

And finally, Norwegian coach Dan Eggen also joined ahead of the friendly against Polish side Lech Poznan.

Team Analysis

Star Players:

First up is Argentinian forward Franco Cangele.

Cangele will play a key role in the side as he is the main player in the side and should be providing big Portuguese Ariza Makukula with the ammunition to score goals for Kayseri. Cangele did bounce around Argentina in the early stages of his career before finding himself at home in Turkey, scoring 10 goals in just under 50 games; whilst not being prolific, Cangele is a huge provider of goals and one of the best technical players in the league.

Next is promising defender Eren Gungor.

Gungor is currently out for at least 9 months with a serious knee ligament injury, but will be a key player in the team upon his return. My assistant Dumlupinar says he has the potential to be a quality player and a leading defender in the league.

Next up is winger Gokhan Emreciksin.

Emreciksin will be a mainstay on the right wing and is a good player to have at this level. Still at a good age of 24, he should provide many assists and chip in with a few himself over the course of the season.

As soon as I saw the title I knew who it was ;)

Good luck mate.

Pre-Season Review

Star midfielder Alioum Saidou departed Kayseri this summer in favour of a £950,000 move to Saint Etienne. Arveladze has already lined up Reading's Turkish starlet Jem Karacan to replace him, and a seasong long loan could be on the cards ahead of a permanent switch. Saidou brought in almost £1m and freed up a space for another foreign signing.

Kayserispor did terminate the loan deal of gigantic striker Ariza Makukula to reduce the wage bill and free up space for other foreign signings, but upon learning Benfica require just £325,000 to snap him up, the likelihood is that Makukula could soon return as a permanent Kayserispor player.

Three youngsters had their contract ripped up; Savas Yilmaz, Emre Kilic and Cagri Can Tanribilir all left the club to further their careers having been deemed surplus to requirements by Arveladze.

On the incoming front, Arveladze has had to be quite prudent in the market, and chose to sign Trabzonspor's international goalkeeper Tolga Zengin for £900,000. He will provide good competition for Souleymane Hamidou, who is now 35 years old and coming towards the end of the career.

Arveladze then purchased 17 year old central defender Emrah Yollu for just £45,000. Yollu has a bright future ahead of him and is certainly one for the future, with the likelihood being that Yollu is loaned out to a second division side for the season to gain some much need experience.

And the Georgian then decided to purchase a striker in Hasan Kabze, who had been transfer listed at Rubin Kazan. Kabze, 27, had scored goals at Galatasary, Bocuspor and Dardanelspor before switching to Russia. Arriving for £575,000, Kabze is another Turkish signing, allowing for more foreign players to sign.

Meanwhile, Arveladze only took charge of two friendlies ahead of the opening game of the season. These saw him get a 0-0 draw away at Lech Poznan and a 2-1 away win at Orduspor, giving him an unbeaten start before the home game against Manisaspor.

I remember back in the good old days when he played for Rangers. Didn't know he was in management till the other day. Do you like Rangers :D. Champions 2009/2010

Firstly, Manisaspor was Arveladze's first game - and it was such an occasion that the game was shown on live TV.

Kayseri didn't disappoint with two quick goals at the end of the second half, including one from hot prospect Omer Sismanoglou.

Next up was a tricky away trip to newly promoted Diyarbakirspor, where Kayseri could expect a bumper crowd for Diyar's first game in the top flight for some years.

However, goals from Franco Cangele and the winner from Galatasary bound Ali Turan gave Kayseri a valuable 3 points.

As Arveladze's team experienced a good start, they had to be wary against a tough Ankaraspor side at home.

ankaraspor.jpg

But it was a third successive win for Shota's men, with Cangele again on the scoresheet and defender Aydin Toscali adding his second goal of the season.

Arveladze's men were looking for a highly unexpected fourth win in a row away at Genclerbiligi, where new signings Ariza Makukula and Jem Karacan started their second games having been part of the side that beat Ankaraspor.

There was to be no repeat however, as Arveladze suffered his first defeat as manager. The sending off of Boyraz only adding insult to injury in the end, and they must regroup ahead of tough games against Fenerbahce and Besiktas.

Can someone close this please? I tried to start a new one last night that hasn't been approved, forgot about this story. Thanks.
