Managers or Players? Who's to blame? If a team under preforms and it's not down to one player is it the players as a whole or is it the Manager?

Fabio Capello has head on the chopping block after this mediocre campaign in the World Cup [Personally I wouldn't say it was a **** campaign as Germany are a fantastic team and my pick for the Cup itself] He did pick the players pick the formation and pick the starting 11 but can he really influence what happens on the pitch from the touchline as much as people believe?

David James and Glen Johnson have came under criticism from one of the major tabloids we all know James is ageing and maybe past his best should it of been Green to be kept or even Joe Hart who by far has had the greatest season compared to the rest. Glen Johnson a wingback critised for his defensive duties but do we really have another RB to choose from?

Both. The players may underperform, because the manager is playing them out of position, or playing them in a formation which does not get the best out of them.

Players can be blamed when one or two consistently under-perform when everyone else plays well. Managers can be blamed when inconsistent results are a regular occurence.

So in terms of Capello who would blame Players or Fabio?

not sure johnson should take most of the blame for the goals:

1-0: Terry ducks/misses (whatever he did it was a shamble of a basic rule of defending) underneath the header instead of clearing it or chasing it back. Klose then outpaces an exposed Upson. Terry's fault.

Having let Muller run at Cole only minutes before without offering any support, Gerrard (once again postionally and tactically inept) again fails to track his forward run down the flank. Cole is left having to deal with two players, pulling Terry and Upson towards the left. Johnson has to cover the centre, with 30 meter cap between him and the next defender in line, leaving Podolski in space. Gerrard's fault.

Then Barry he gets caught in possession with no cover behind him. Without cover he should be smart enough not to move forward on the ball. Lampard made the situation worse by failing to drop deeper and cover as Barry committed. Barry's fault, with help from Lampard.

4th goal, Defenders (what the **** are they doing with their gung ho attitude) caught up pitch, with Barry horribly slow on the cover. Complete loss of discipline. Central defence and Barry at fault.

For every goal, Johnson was badly exposed.

its not that straightforward, they are both to blame. along with the fa, the media, the fans. this is the cumlination long and short term of mainly failing. but short therm they both get it in the neck

Yea I agree with you wholey. Fabio Capello is in the wrong for thinking Gerrard playing on the left was a wise idea as it's enivitable he would to drift inside lacking width in the team. John Terry was committing himself once to often and the CM weren't doing there duties properly. I would of played a 4-4-1-1.

Hart
Cole
King
Dawson
Johnson
Lennon
Lampard
Barry
Milner
Gerrard
Rooney.

capello let himself down with tacticaly inflexibity, and poor choice of 23, but gerrard, rooney, lampard, barry, terry all let him down. particularly gerrard, whose kept attemting to be alla ction when his role required discipline, though capello takes some blame here for thinking that gerrard could do anything other than be "all action" ( im going to get stoned by liverpool fans, but im not having a pop at him because he's liverpool)

the joke is, had he actually shown more disciplined he could have player a more all action role. holding his runs more often would have left an outlet for rooney. who could then move to a better postions and recieve the ball back, then play him in

England squad isn't as good as once though. With the likes of Upson James Green Heskey Wright-Phillips have had poor seasons out prolific players. Rooney Gerrard Lampard didn't show up. Bent Zamora weren't there Michael Dawson and Ledley King were far the greatest combination this season out of any two partnerships in the Premierships.

we simply did not have the players on the pitch to play 4-4-2.

if you had to play 4-4-2 (and i wouldnt if had the choice), all things being perfect, including fitness and form

james

cole
king
rio
johnson

johnson
hargreaves
carrick
beckham

rooney
crouch

the only players capable of showing the high pressing and discipline to play 4-4-2 imo

Both the player and manager is to blame,Managers may use a tactic which does not get the best out of his players but sometimes the players are to blame such as John Terry's mistake and Robert Green's howler

both simple as that. its the managers fault if the team arnt finding his tactics any good and its the players fault for not showing enough passion and basicly not giving a ****.

Hello

For both should have to follow their responsibility. If something wrong with team than players and mangers should have to short our the problems.
