Manchester United, epitomized by many as the greatest ever football club in the world, is a professional club based in Manchester, England. Formerly Newton Heath LYR, they changed their name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910, and have remained so and recognized so globally ever since.

Manchester United has always had a focus and emphasis on youth and is widely regarded as being one of the most successful youth academies in Europe, and the best youth academy historically, in England. United's youth academy has produced some of Manchester United's greatest ever players Ryan Giggs, Sir Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, who have the top five all time appearances for the club. Manchester United's youth academy also has nine players in the England Hall of Fame.

SIR MATT BUSBY
View attachment 311454
Manchester United initially encountered major success under Sir Matt Busby, who was the first 'domineering manager' that Manchester United had. Wanting control over all running functions of the club, he lead his young team, famously known as Busby Babes, to unprecedented success including the European Cup (becoming the first English Club to participate and win it) despite tragedy striking the club in the form of the Munich Air Disaster in 1958, ending the lives of many talented players and staff, including Duncan Edwards, who is considered by many as the most talented player ever to play football. Sir Matt Busby resigned as the manager in 1969, after rebuilding the team and leading them to greater heights.

From 1969 to 1986, Manchester United faced intermittent success, including a couple of F.A Cups, but it was a far cry from the heights the club had reached under Sir Matt Busby. The most influential thing that was to happen during this period was the signing of Bryan Robson, who would go on to become one of the most influential players the club would ever see.

Bryan Robson captained Manchester United for 12 years - more so than any other player in the history of the club.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON

View attachment 311446In 1986, a Scottish manager by the name of Alex Ferguson was appointed as the manager. Despite not facing success until 1990, a FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace was to lead the opening of floodgates of trophies that was unprecedented in football history. Sir Alex Ferguson, during his reign of 26 years, became an iconic manager who was revered, feared and respected by his peers and players. Highly demanding, shrewd, intelligent - he went on to lead Manchester United to hitherto unimaginable heights including 13 Premier League trophies, 5 FA Cups, 2 UEFA Champions League trophies and many, many more. Sir Alex, like his esteemed predecessor, also brought in a lot of youth players into the first team and enjoyed long term success with them. His youth players would eventually go on to be known as the 'Class of 92'. Sir Alex retired (for the second time) in 2013, becoming the most successful manager ever to grace the game.

THE DARK YEAR
View attachment 3114442013/14 was what could be considered as the dark period in Manchester United history. The club appointed David Moyes, formerly Head Coach of Everton, under the advice of Sir Alex. This was quite a shock considering that Moyes had never managed a club comparable to Manchester United before, and there were fears that this could lead to the club's downfall. Unfortunately, for United, these fears were not unfounded, as Manchester United endured their worst campaign in recent years, and failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1995-96. This, and unrest in the dressing room, caused the club to sack David Moyes as manager. It was also during this time that Ryan Giggs announced his retirement from the game, after 24 years of playing for the club. Ryan Giggs was the interim manager for the club for the remainder of the season.

Now, the attractive position as manager in probably one of the most successful clubs in the world is once again vacant. There are sure to be many candidates wanting to make their mark upon Old Trafford. The leading candidate to fill the post are thought to be Louis van Gaal of Netherlands, who is currently managing the Dutch National Team. Many rumours are floating around that the club is in advanced talks with the manager, who apparently has indicated his willingness to take over the club after his national duties come to an end.

Loved your other united story cant wait for this

Thanks a lot mate ^_^ I'm hoping to go deeper into it, and hopefully longer. I have plans to add posts of United history inbetween too, if it pans out.

MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER UPDATE

Despite the disastrous reign under David Moyes which saw them drop to unprecedented lows in the transfer market as well as in the Premier League, it seems that Manchester United have not lost their appeal as a top club. Despite not having a manager currently, the club has seen fit to bring in quite a number of well known players in order to remove the shackles of the previous season and move on to a new chapter in their history.

Other than these, Manchester United have also signed two young players in Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Ajax for a fee of 500,000 $ and Vanja Milinkovic Savic from Vojvodina for a fee of 3 Million $. Fosu-Mensah is a talented young player who can play as a Defensive Midfielder or a Defender. Savic is regarded as a hot prospect up-and-coming goalkeeper and will be loaned back to his parent club for a year for some valuable game-time.

It is nor known whether the signings were made with the approval of the next manager of Manchester United, but United fans will be hoping that these signing prove to be inspired ones and hopefully, lead the club to glory.

BREAKING NEWS!

Louis van Gaal announces that he is not taking the Manchester United post

Louis van Gaal, in a press conference, has announced that he is not taking over as the head coach of Manchester United. Speaking in a press conference after resigning from the Dutch National team after guiding them to third in the World Cup, van Gaal had this to say

"Of course, it is very, very flattering to hear your name being linked in the press to a club as prestigious as Manchester United. Despite their recent troubles, they still remain a top, top club. However, I want to clear the air regarding this situation that I will not be taking over as the manager of Manchester United. At this moment, I want a short break from management in order to recharge myself for future challenges. I may decide to go to England for management at some point in the future, but at the moment, it is not so."

More questions asked by reporters were largely met by a stoic negative by van Gaal, who stated,
"No matter in which way you ask me the question, my answer will remain the same. I just want a break at present, and so, I am taking one. I have no other answers for whether I was approached by Manchester United or whether I fell out with their Board."

van Gaal, who has lots of experience and a winning habit, would have been perfect for the job at Manchester United.

This is likely to be a huge blow to Manchester United, as they continue in their search for a head coach who will guide them back to the Champions League and further glory. Recent transfers completed by Manchester United, and the imminent resignation from the national team by van Gaal had given rise to mass speculation that he would take over the charge of Manchester United. It was thought that recent transfers made by Manchester United were all in line with van Gaal's philosophy and style of play and a manager of van Gaal's calibre would surely guide them to trophies and success that was desired by the fans.

There are lots of rumours flying around that van Gaal and Avram Glazer couldn't agree on the direction the club would take. Avram Glazer took over the club after his father, Malcolm Glazer passed away, and it is rumoured that van Gaal had a falling off with the new owner of the club; however, as of yet, nothing is confirmed. This wouldn't be the first time van Gaal would've had a falling out with the Board of a club either, as van Gaal wants total control over the running of a club.

Manchester United owner Avram Glazer and Ed Woodward have called a press conference scheduled later in the day, where they're widely expected to announce who the next manager of Manchester United is going to be. One thing is for sure, there will be lots of questions from the media regarding the recent announcement by Louis van Gaal.

I for one will definitely be following this!! Man Utd fan. Hope you do well. Try sign Lucas Boye from River. Amazing youngster! Could learn from Van Persie!

PRESS CONFERENCE BY MANCHESTER UNITED

Ed Woodward has arrived at the press conference. This conference is supposed to clear the air over Louis van Gaal and about the new manager in charge of Manchester United.

View attachment 311036

Reporter: First thing first, what is your take on Louis van Gaal's recent announcement about wanting a break from management?
Ed Woodward: It is Louis van Gaal's decision, and it isn't my place to comment about it.

Reporter: But what about the widespread rumours that van Gaal was set to take over as head coach of Manchester United?
Ed Woodward: As you said, they were just rumours. Nothing was confirmed or substantiated either by the club or by van Gaal. Louis van Gaal has stated that he wants a break from management, and the only reason this is even receiving so much publicity is because of the widespread rumours that he was set to join us.

Reporter: But what about the transfers Manchester United have completed recently? Surely that was an indicative of it?
Ed Woodward: The transfers we've made are purely based on what we feel is the right direction for the club to move forward to, considering the year we have had. There is no doubt that any manager would love to work with talents like these, and they can fit into various styles of play, so we anticipate no problems.

Reporter: Speaking of which, considering the amount of money you have already spent, will it mean that the new manager will not get a say in what players he wants to bring in?
Ed Woodward: No, we have not turned into a club which will restrict the manager on such a key role. Whoever will take over as the manager will have more than adequate funds to bring in the type of players he wants to. That is not something to worry about. As I have always maintained, the club can afford any player right now, and we intend to keep it that way.

Reporter: When can we expect the announcement of the new manager of Manchester United?
Ed Woodward: The club is in advanced talks regarding this situation, and we should have an update about it soon. As soon it is officially finalized, we will inform the press.

Ed Woodward: With that, this interview is finished. Thank you for your time.

That was Ed Woodward holding a press conference on behalf of Manchester United. As stated by him, the club seem to be in advanced talks with a managerial candidate. The football fraternity is waiting to see who will take the high pressure seat of head coach at Manchester United.

BREAKING NEWS

Manchester United - Sherlock Holmes will take over as manager of Manchester United for the year 2014/15. He has signed a one year contract.

Sherlock, 26, has not had previous managerial experience, but is said to be a respected youth scout and coach, having visited and observed the running of various academies across the continent. He will take charge immediately.

Ryan Giggs, English football’s most decorated player and the United player with most appearances in the Club’ s history, has been appointed as Assistant Manager. Ryan took charge of the First Team for the last four matches of the 2013/14 season.

Announcing the appointments Ed Woodward, said:
"In Sherlock Holmes, we have secured the services of one of the outstanding young managers today and Old Trafford provides him with a fitting stage on which to write new chapters in Manchester United history."
"Everyone is very excited about this new phase in the club's history. Sherlock has made a name for himself as a youth coach and tactician, and we hope that he will be able to further his ambitions and credentials here, and there is no better place to do so."

"Sherlock may not be known as much globally, but we firmly believe him to be the right choice. We have been extremely impressed with his acumen, tactical knowledge, intelligence and diligence. Also, he is a very big fan of the club, and his knowledge about the club's history and players is extraordinary. He has also been instrumental in spreading our knowledge and the club's name across his country."

"People may argue about his lack of experience, but I would like to remind them about a little of our club's history - a long time ago, the club appointed a former army man with no previous managerial experience. It was something unheard of previously, but it went on to be one of the best decisions every made by the club. His name was Sir Matt Busby. While it would be sacrilegious to compare the Sherlock to one of our greatest legends, it doesn't mean we don't have faith in him. We are confident that this a step in the right direction and that Sherlock can lead us to glory."

"I'm also delighted that Sherlock has chosen Ryan as his assistant manager. Ryan’s association with the Club spans over two decades and his knowledge and stature will be of great use to Sherlock. In addition, this is a fantastic opportunity for Ryan to learn the trade at a high pressure job."

Sherlock Holmes said:
"It always was a wish of mine to work in the Premier League, but not in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would do so in this fashion one day. This is one of the best leagues in the world, where all sorts of players and play styles can succeed. To work as a manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and one which I'm a huge supporter of makes me very proud. I have seen the atmosphere at Old Trafford - and a better environment I have not witnessed anywhere else. I know what an tremendous place Old Trafford is, and how knowledgeable and passionate the fans are. The club has big ambitions, and so do I. Together, we will let it mesh, and go on to let the world see something it never has before."

Avram Glazer said:
"I'm delighted that Sherlock will be our next manager. He is a supporter of the club, and understands the ambitions that the club harbors. He has already communicated some great ideas for how the Club can move forward. The board is right behind him in his plans and everyone here is already looking forward to the start of the season."

Ryan Giggs said:
"I am thrilled to have the chance to serve as Assistant Manager. Sherlock is a good coach, and I hope the two of us learn a lot from each other. Manchester United has been a huge part of my life and I’ m delighted to be able to continue that relationship in such a key role."

The above was the press release by United stating the appointment of Sherlock Holmes as the new manager of Manchester United. It is not yet known why Manchester United have taken this drastic step of appointing someone relatively unknown in the football world. Sherlock is a past international, and has made numerous appearances for his national side. He has also served as an assistant for a short while for a club in his native country. But to take on the job as a manager of Manchester United is a whole different prospect. Sherlock has called a press conference two days from now, where he will be answering a whole host of questions related to various issues and concerns. One can imagine we will have more clarity on the situation after that.

Well, the press release was over, and while I was a bit nervous, I managed to successfully get through with it. My next big encounter with the press would come day after tomorrow, where I would face my first press conference as a Manchester United manager. It feels like a make or break press conference, but that is exactly the kind of pressure one feels at clubs like Manchester United. And I'm confident I'll come good for it.

Meanwhile, here I was sitting in the iconic room where once, Sir Alex Ferguson had sat and managed the club. It is a rather strange feeling to do so, while in the presence of so many legends. I only hope that one day, my name will considered as a legend at the club. But a lot of hard work remains on that path before that can happen, but I'm optimistic. It will happen!

After all, where better to dream and do than at the Theatre of Dreams.

But anyhow, my first training session with the lads was tomorrow morning, but before that, I had a report of my team compiled by Ryan Giggs. I couldn't ask for a better assistant to help me get acclimatised into the club and get to know the players. Giggs is someone who lives and breathes the club, so with him on my side, I should be able to handle it pretty well.

But after perusing the report, the basic thoughts about my squad were as follows.

View attachment 310644

These are the players I expect to be in and around our first team squad. Of course, a lot depends on the training and how much we're able to keep players fit, so quite some young players may get a chance in the first team too. I still haven't made my mind about fringe players like Anderson. I'll be able to make better informed opinions about the players once I've seen them train properly.

Well, it's the day of the training. All the boys are on time and are going through their paces. I hang back, and let the staff do their job while I observe the players going through their routine.

I'm thankful that I decided to take it easy with this first training, because I received a report that Rafael, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Michael Carrick all are out with medium term injuries, while Falcao is recovering from injury and will be out for two weeks, and van Persie is on vacation until August 4. This is a blow. I'll have to remember to schedule my training properly so as to not exert my injury prone players.

As expected, David de Gea is the best keeper at the club, with excellent overall ability. He is an excellent shot stopper, as well as having good reflexes, and he is less prone to do something crazy. He'll be a mainstay in my team. I've also just found out that David de Gea has only 2 years left to run on his contract. There has been no interest in him from other teams, but that could change very soon, so I'll be looking to tie him down to a long term contract as soon as possible.

View attachment 310396

I found Mata to be a very good player on the technical side, as well as going on to attack. He will definitely be a mainstay in my side. Plus, he's very agile and makes chances where no one else can see them. A very, very shrewd buy by United under David Moyes (how many times has that been said?). Another person brought into the first team by David Moyes - Adnan Januzaj is a very similar player to Mata. I'll be looking to cultivate him into the first team properly as well.

View attachment 310395

Speaking of a David Moyes buy, Marouane Fellaini. This guy may not be the fastest, but he is strong and mean. He had a horrid last year, but I'm confident he can turn it around. He will be my midfield enforcer, breaking up opposition plays. Considering his role at Everton, and his basic stamina, I also believe that he can be a good Box to Box midfielder, so I'll be looking to test that theory out too.

View attachment 310394

And of course, it is nice to see that Angel di Maria is getting along well with his teammates. He is a marquee player for us, and as such, is another crucial cog in my tactic. So it is important that he gels along with the rest of the team and understands them. di Maria will bring some much needed pace into the side, and his dribbling should allow him to get past defenders into advantageous positions.

View attachment 310393

And finally, it definitely was a strange sight to see Ryan Giggs as an assistant manager on the training pitch rather than as a player. And I'm pretty sure it will be the same reaction to many of our players as well, including Wayne Rooney. But Giggs always gives his 100% for the club, it won't take them long to get adjusted to his new role. I couldn't have a better assistant manager at this stage of my Manchester United career even if I'd tried.

View attachment 310383

Well, upon observing my team train, initial thoughts are that I have some places I'd need strengthened further.
I'd ideally like a winger to replace Ashley Young - he has done ok in training, but he is getting on and is on high wages considering his age. di Maria will be my main force on the wings, so he won't be getting much game time either. Ryan Giggs informs me that Tottenham have shown an interest in him, so if they match our price, Young may move.

Anderson is someone else I'll be looking to move on too. He hasn't done that much in the first day of training, and hasn't played much recently at all. While I do believe he can make a decent winger with his pace, he won't get a look-in with the team I currently have, I'll be looking to move him on too, so that he can further his career elsewhere.

I've informed my scouts of the type of players I want them to find for me. I've also given them a list of young players who I know of beforehand that I want them to scout. Things are already rolling around over here. After all, when Manchester United want to get something done, we try to get it done as fast as possible.
