Manchester United - lack of goals and defensively vunrable!

So i'm playing as manutd and we seem to be having 15-20 shots a match and 2 or 3 on target and we seem to seseptable to the likes of ipswich defensively!!!!!!!!

I'm playing a 4-4-2,
Gk - Goalkeeper
RB/LB - Fullbacks - Automatic
CB1 - Ball Playing Defender - Defend (Ferdinand)
CB2 - Defender - Stopper (Vidic)
RM/LM - Wide Midfielder - Attack
CM1 - Advanced Playmaker - Support
CM2 - Ball Winning Midfielder - Defend
ST1 - Deep lying Playmaker - Support
ST2 - Advanced Forward - Attack

More Pressing
More Roaming
No other changes.

People's advise please!

Should i change the duties for the individual, or have players to fit into my desired duties?
Seem to be having alot of long shots as well.

Any advise is welcome, as you can tell im not exactly a pro at this!!!

Try Jovetic upfront as a complete forward or even trequarista.

playing 4-4-2 with united myself, and i have the meanest defence in the league (14 goals conceded all season)
based on how my game has gone:
1) as united you will spend at least 70% of your time in an attacking mentality, which means you need to win the ball back, i'd go to more pressing
2) youve got a creative side, more creative freedom
3) switch to zonal marking
4) carrick is not an advanced playmaker, he cannot carry the ball forwards as he cant dribble to ****, if you want to use him set him to deep lying playmaker support, though personally i use an advanced playmaker attack there.
5) switch ferdinand to covr and vidic to defend
6) berbatov hasnt got the work rate to be the link man, set rooney to complete forward support, set berbatov to complete forward attack, or trequartista
7) jovetic likes to attack inside, set him to winger/support, manuall chane his play to cut inside,and set his crossing from often to mixed, he'll act like a deeper inside forward
8) i tend to have the set playmaker to none, cos if you set a specific playmaker and he is having a bad day, the whole team suffers

Fletcher and carrick switch positons.
Maybe move Park and Jovetic to AML and AMR also get VDS in goal after he gets back from injury.
