Louis was appointed as manager in 2014 after the sacking of David Moyes. After guiding the Netherlands to a 3rd place finish in the 2014 World Cup expectations were high that Louis would be able to provide the success that David Moyes couldn't. He set about rebuilding the squad and spent nearly £150m on bringing Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo to the club. His reign didn't get off to a great start as it took until the 4th game of the season to get his first win in the league. During that period Man Utd were hammered 4-0 by MK Dons in the League Cup. In November Van Gaal guided to club to 6 straight league victories to get the club into the top 4. That was as good as it got though as the form was hit and miss after that and the club ultimately finish 4th and qualify for the Champions League. His 2nd season in charge brought more re building to the team. Record signing Angel Di Maria was sold to PSG after only 1 season and Rafael, Nani, RVP, Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverley and Jonny Evans all left the club. They were replaced by Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial. Even though the club managed good wins against the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Loses against the likes of Nowich, West Brom, Bournemouth and West Ham cost Man Utd dearly and they ultimately finished 5th.
In surprise developments Man Utd have named their next manager and that will be Jose Mourinho. After his sacking from Chelsea in December he has always been touted as a potential replacement for his former mentor Louis Van Gaal and now that has been confirmed.
