BOLTON MAKE SHOCK APPOINTMENT OF UNITED LEGEND MICHAEL CARRICK
"Since my recent retirement, I've decided to take the trip into management. Bolton Wanderers are a fantastic club to begin with. They've got a legacy, and still have quality players now. I'm not going to discuss my future so early, I want to lead this club right now and that's all I'm focused on. All I can say is that I'm delighted to have this opportunity to start my managerial career."

Michael Carrick has been appointed manager of Bolton Wanderers after the club parted ways with previous manager Phil Parkinson. It's certainly going to be interested in how someone with little managerial experience will step into a big job for his level of managing. Since Carrick's retirement last season, it has been rumoured that he had his eye on a managerial position, but few expected him to land such a big job so early. The Bolton Board have taken a big risk on hiring him to lead the club forward.

CARRICK LAUDS BRILLIANT SIGNING AMIDST 5-0 PRE-SEASON DRUBBING
"I came into this club with only one thing in mind for the transfer window. The right side of midfield looked a little weak, we had no one natural to play there at the time. I'm delighted to announce the signing of Jack Clarke from Leeds. I know we have ourselves a very talented player here, and there was interest from a number of clubs. I'm thrilled that he chose us. He's perfect for our system and he's only 17 as well. I couldn't be more happy. The start he's had has also been phenomenal. The club we played wasn't an amateur one, Clarke was outstanding. I can only hope he plays like that all season!"

Michael Carrick said the above following his sides 5-0 win over OJC Rosmalen. It was a dream debut for Clarke, scoring after just 7 minutes. He was a threat on the attack throughout as Bolton showed a different side to the defensive approach usually associated with them. It's got several pundits thinking on whether Carrick is implementing a wonderful new tactic into the team. Football pundit and fellow former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand made the following comments.

"You can tell they start off defensively. They sit back, but in a way, Carrick has them analysing the way the opposition is playing every moment of the match. If they're going to sit back, he'll leave his consistent 4 down back, but the rest of the side will gather momentum and fluidly move up the pitch. I don't think I noticed one error in their attacking play today. Wonderful to watch. It has to be said though, the quality of opposition will be far better come the beginning of the season, they've already lost a game as well. Certainly will be interesting how this side develops. I'll say one thing already for Carrick, he's already got us talking about this team more than we have in a number of year prior."

BOLTON PREDICTED TO GO DOWN DESPITE NEW LOOK TEAM
Bolton have been predicted to finish 23rd in the Championship despite new manager Michael Carrick adding starlet Jack Clarke to his squad. It's said that'll be his sole transfer deal across the window. Despite weaknesses remaining, funds aren't high for Bolton and they'll look to improve throughout the season.

There were rumours of loan moves for Sean Longstaff, Dwight McNeil and Divock Origi and even a transfer deal for young Brazilian striker Brenner, but nothing materialised. Rumours of deals for Longstaff and Brenner still linger, but it remains to be seen if they can get either across the line.

CARRICK FINALISES LONGSTAFF LOAN AND DISCUSSES POOR PRE-SEASON
"Once again, I'm thrilled with another deal. I'm over the moon to have Longstaff here. He's a top talent and I think he'll be amazing while he's here. But, my focus right now is that our pre-season wasn't great. We only notched one win, a great win, but only one. I know this team is capable of better. I'm trying to find the right tactics at the moment. I know that I have to find it quickly, I know I don't have an eternity. But, over a few weeks in the Championship, I think I've got the ability to be able to find the right formula to guide the club forward."

Bolton suffered in pre-season, losing to what would be said as inferior opposition, and dropping points to a team several divisions below them with a decent team. It isn't good enough so far. But Carrick has the firm belief that it's getting better. It looks as though Bolton will need new loan signing Sean Longstaff to quickly return from injury and be a key part of the side. Longstaff arrives with great excitement from Newcastle and there is a lot of hope that he could guide the club, alongside fellow youngster Jack Clarke, clear of the relegation zone. It'll certainly be interesting to see.

A LOOK IN AT CARRICK'S BOLTON: AN OVERVIEW
Bolton look stronger than they ever have over the past few years. Under new manager Michael Carrick, the club have had an excellent transfer window, as Carrick looks towards youth via bringing in Jack Clarke and Sean Longstaff. The window remains open but it looks unlikely that any further business will be conducted by the Wanderers.
KEY PLAYER - SAMMY AMEOBI

Many wouldn't regard Ameobi as an obvious choice for Bolton's key player. However, he's been one of their only consistent performers over the pat few season and remains one of the star qualities in the squad. He's performed over a long period of time and still has room to grow. He's also attracting interest from Bristol City, so Bolton will want to keep hold of one of their better players.
THE UNSUNG HERO - JOSH VELA

Josh Vela has been an exciting player who hasn't quite fulfilled his expectations yet at Bolton. Michael Carrick looks like the type of manager who can get the best out of him. Vela has shown his ability to excite in short sparks so far, if Carrick can make him consistent, then who knows how far he could go.
THE HOT PROSPECT - JACK CLARKE

What a star signing this was for Bolton. Clarke is a scintillating prospect and looks a gem of an acquisition for the club. He's already a key player, and he can only get better. Liverpool were heavily interested in him, so for Bolton to win the race for Jack Clarke is really something. A brilliant piece of business by Carrick.
