I've told my board at Wigan I will avoid relegation this season and now it's mid season they have asked me if I want to change my target to a mid-tabled finish. I'm sitting pretty in 5th position. But what I want to know is this only for more trnasfer money or for a better reputation regarding management? I'm confident I can keep up this form and finish in the top 6 but I don't want to let the board down and obviously can't guarantee a top 6 finish. If it's only regarding transfers I'm happy with the players I have now for a couple of seasons. Am I better just saying mid-table finish or pushing it a bit?

If you think you can do it, you should, but if you think you may miss out, then don't, but at the end of the day, even if you change it to mid-table, you can still finish as low as tenth or so and they will be happy. :)

But is it only regarding the money available to me or my overall reputation? eg. If I tell them I'll finish mid table as opposed to european qualification and actually qualify for europe will they respect me more for 'downgrading' my self?

Not really. Had it before myself a few times. I've stuck to pre-season expectations, never decreased them when been top of table when they wanted to battle bravely against relegation, they just ended up being absolutely delighted. Got a healthy little contract and nice budget afterwards though
