Anyone have any success with a 4-2-4, playing the two MCs as a DeepLying Playmaker and an Advanced Playmaker? How about two advanced playmakers or two Ball winning midfielders? Am I limited to an attacking CM and a defending CM? Any success experimenting?

i think that the best way to play a 4-2-4 (or 4-4-2) is one mid should be a ball winning mid in defend role and the other one should be an adv playmaker in support role.In that case you have one mid who stop the attackers of the opposite team and finaly the second mid has the role to create game for your team.

Experiment. Some of the weaker teams I've started going all out attack with my midfield. Wilshere/Defour - Thiago/AM regen. Has worked great with some complete domination of teams 5/6 - 0. Wilshere just about balances it as a box to box. Wouldn't recommend against good teams though, especially away!

CM-support (Carrick) with CM-defend (Fletcher) in a flat 4-4-2 works well with carrick grabbing a few goals and a lot of assists

My best midfield partnership ever has been a;

Fernandinho - Ball Winning Midfielder - Defend
Javier Pastore - Advanced Playmaker - Attack (some advanced settings on both)

Fernandinho wins the ball brilliantly, passes to Pastore who sprints past everyone and either gives it wide for a cross or through ball for Rooney/Hernandez/Regen to score.

you have not gap in middle with this role of adv playmaker in attack?i think that with support role there is not gap in middle because the adv playmaker stay in centre to give assists and to create game

Nope, it's been fine so far. Every year I've scored the most goals and conceded the least - just into my 7th season now. Won everything at least once, UCL twice and EPL every year.

Good and Succesful Partnerships Ive Had:

Ball Winning/Defend & Box-to-Box/Support
Central Mid/Defend & DLP/Support
2 CM Supports (Both with One Click into Defensive Mentality)

Though My Fave is- Dlp/Defend & Ball Winner/Box-to-Box on Support (Depending on Player)

:D

I play a 4-2-4 with MCl adv PM support and MCr Ball Winnning Mid def.. Usually it works quite well.
Some times i get caught if i loose the ball high up the pitch and get hit on the counter..

Havent tried any other midfield combos.. Maybe DLP def/sup and BTB sup might work? Wouldnt the DLP need good tackling if on def duty?
