Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice re. strikers. I'm into my second season on a Liverpool save, not doing too bad, but not setting the world alight either. I'm currently in 3rd place and in with a good shout of doing better, but I have concerns about the performance of my strikers.

I generally play a 4231, with Lucas and Meireles in CM (Ball Winning & Box to Box), Coentrao as an AML (Winger), Pastore and an AMC (Advanced Playmaker) and Gerrard as an AMR (Inside Forward). This axis all works pretty well and goals are spread out, Pastore, Gerrard and Meireles in particular in the goals.

My strikers concern me however. I have Suarez, Benzema and Carroll at the club, but none of them have performed consistently. In fact, it's pretty much the worst performance I've ever had in all the versions I've played. In 25 league games and about 15 euro and cup fixtures, the highest goal total for any of them is Suarez with 9 goals. Avg. ratings are also pretty poor at around 6.8-7. They get loads of chances but finishing is appalling.

I've tried various different player roles etc, but I just can't seem to find one that suits. Is it a question of needing different options upfront? Or maybe training? Anyone had this issue before? I would have though these 3 strikers, whilst not the best in the game, would still be performing a lot better!

what patch are you using bud? this has been a problem up until 11.3 (the latest one)

what roles are you playing the 3 strikers in?

I had this problem with C.Benitez on my old Sociedad save, he scored 31 goals in 24 appearances then in the second season he couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo. I tweaked my tactic a little upped the tempo of my play and in general just made little changes here an there. See if that works or a change of formation.

It all depends what you're setting them as. Using carroll as a target man, will get the best out of him but maybe limit his goalscoring, but with gerrard as you inside forward you may get a lot of goals out of him with carroll nodding back. Suarez in my opinion cannot operate as a lone striker, he works better with support from a big man, so consider trying playing carroll and suarez together, again with carroll as target man with support duty, suarez as either advanced forward or poacher. Benzema i have no experience of since fm09 so im not sure. also consider putting you strikers on individual training focus for finishing/concentration and setting you're match day prep to attacking movement. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

I'm using the 11.3 patch, and I tend to play the strikers as follows:

Suarez: Advanced Forward
Benzema: Poacher
Carroll: Target Man / Complete Forward

My match preparation is currently set to attacking movement, but I'll try giving individual finishing training a go and see if it makes a difference.

Best case scenario would be to get Suarez firing on his own upfront because he fits with the way I'd like to play, but if that's not going to happen then so be it!

Suarez plays for me best as a Trequesta, Ive had him there with Carroll as pocher and gerrard behind as Adv Playmaker and they are doing pretty well. Suarez 20 goals Carroll around 12 but has been injured alot and gerrard was in great form at the start of the season but has dipped but still got 10 plus goals. And ive only just hit jan!
