Hi everyone,

i'd like to ask you, experienced members, a question, something i consider a bug within the game.

I play a network game with 2 of my friends. We do the liga sagres (portuguese league) playing for porto, benfica and sporting and are now in the middle of the 2nd season (autumn 2010).

Now my friend, who plays Benfica, within an year and something sold players for around 150M and bought for 400M, still having like 40M transfer budget.

Yes, you read correctly. He bought players for 400 Million Euro within mere 16 months. He did deals like:

Akinfeev for 60M
Jovetic for 60M
Sakho for 59M
Hamsik for 39M
Dzeko for 39M

and so on.

Now the way he does it is always the same: He offers the whole amount using 48 months installments payment, paying always zero upfront so he keeps the cash and can raise the wage budget if necessary.

It's becoming seriously frustrating playing against him. So i am asking: Is it possible to go bankrupt ? He must be paying around 6-8 Million per month for the players. And my second question: HOW is it possible that the board allowed repeatedly these huge deals? And also, how is it possible that the clubs don't care if you pay them upfront or within 48 months?

I consider it as a bug in the game but would like to ask for your experience with this issue. Thank you.

Btw his wage budget is over 1 Mil./week.

p.s. i tried to find a similar thread addressing this issue to avoid doubleposting but found only that it is possible to play this way but not recommended. I think it's something which should be addressed to SI because when playing in seriously competitive environment (against live players), it's obvious they will use everything the game offers to take the advantage. And to me this is a serious flaw, something absolutely unreal.

The amount of money he'll have to pay will be crippling.

He'll go bankrupt, you'll win. :P

Yeah he'll go in the red within a few months
Its a bad idea for network games to use monthly installments THAT much. Basically cheating.

Is it possible in the game to go bankrupt ? What if new chairman steps in and keeps him as manager ? Because to be honest, he has now second Real Madrid team and he is expecting to win everything he can so i wouldn't think the new chairman would fire him.

Btw he keeps buying additional players (has no problem offering 10-11M for 17y wonderkid even if he has 3 other players at his position) so the total debt could easily rise above 0.5Billion Euro. To me, that is a serious game bug, because it's not possible to earn that much money without doing very lucky player sales. And still, which team would buy Sakho or Jovetic for 60 Million?

not a game bug, it can happen in real life though managers arent that stupid (and most boards would step). the xlub can and will go bankrupt. your friend is certainly not playing in the spirit of the game either

The bug in my eyes is, that the board didn't step in and stopped those ridiculous deals. Even if he would win everything in the next 4 years he wouldn't come even close to 400-500M of debt. He can later only sell players he bought and run it as ponzi scheme. Something which game shouldn't allow.

Yes its part of the game, they put it in because most deals now are like this. Be warned though, one of the reasons Portsmouth are in the **** now is because the bought lots of players with installments.

Simple, just don't play with him.

Dunc, that's really not a solution :( SI should take a closer look at it and modify the code not to allow crazy deals.

Yeah but if your playing with a friend, surely you should try and play in the spirit of the game, not just expolit it?

its not a bug most managers playing the game will use them in a realistic way, your friend is just unfairly exploiting it. as JP said much like portsmouth did in real life, and it came back to haunt them, the same will happen in your game

True. But when you play against other FM fanatics and have very equal teams (like we do), its all about competition and they will use anything the game offers to gain advantage. That's why i consider it as a bug, it's ok to use it but it's not ok to allow 400M of debt deals, board should have stepped in long time ago like it would do in a real life. How come they step in in every stupid asistant mng or coach deal if they feel the club has enough of them but don't do it when someone does 3x 70M deal in one transfer window ? This is what i mean, the code should be modified to address this issue, because there is no board on earth which would allow that, especially if u are top3 club in the country.

It is a part of the game but SI should put some sort of a limit on it. Eg. link it with the clubs cash flows or average transfer budget for the last n seasons. IRL the board would step in and prevent the manager from buying players and basically using the club as collateral.

I had another idea to limit the number of crazy deals. You would simply have to pay for the monthly installments of the current season out of the transfer budget. So if you have a budget of 10M then you can't be paying 3M a month for the entire season. And I think SI should find a way to lower the number of transfers because at the moment most managers buy 3-5 new first team players every season. Not very realistic isn't it.

i was going to cite portsmouth also. they ruined themselves by operating this way as well. i know FM and RL are not the same, and its maybe easier to do in the game, but ive never used the installments thing, if i dont have the money to outright buy, i dont bother :)

i disagree, if you are a less glamorous club, and overspend by using this feature in the short term and can subsidise that by winning a place in the champions league, your revenue streems will obviously increase if you can secure this place reguarly, however it is a unfair abuse of it on a 'net game' if it is only a short game

Dude it's not SI's fault your friend is a moron..

Personally I like using monthly instalments, when you are playing as a team who isn't like one of the top 20 in the world it makes it easier to bring in big players. I really don't see it as a bug.. :S

Where would the fun be if your board stepped in every time you tried to complete a deal? Football Manager is about having the freedom to control as much as you can, including the finances, if you use them properly then you won't have a problem.

If you have a problem with them then just make a rule in your net games saying no monthly instalments :S

Its a game!!!!! I use the 48 month payment all the time as it allows you to buy and build a world class team, I have never gone bankrupt even though after 4 seasons I spent £635,000,000 !!!!

im wolves and im trying to clear out players so i can bring in new ones but all the offers im gettin are either 12 or 24 month installments and i need the money now. its so annoying.
