Scottish Third Division side Montrose have appointed unknown manager Andy Potter as their new manager.

The part-time side from Angus finished bottom of the Third Division last season under the leadership of former manager Steven Tweed and Club Chairman Malcolm Watters said the club needed to be taken in a new direction.
The club is also in massive financial trouble as the club's debt continues to mount.
Potter was unveiled at a press conference last night and revealed his phenomenal ambition.

He said "The club performed very, very poorly last season and I think, with the right work ethic and hard work, it can be taken a long way, the fans have not been turning up in recent years simply because of the league position. I believe I can change that."

When asked what his aim would be for this season, he revealed "The club at this moment needs stability and we need to work within our budget, we will also take cost-cutting measures but I understand that the fans are hungry for success and so I will aim to both stabilize the club and get the right results in at the same time."

Potter added "I would like to get my own squad and backroom staff in and I understand that the players and fans will want answers as soon as possible. I will be up-front at what is going on behind the scenes and keep the fans up to date."

"I will use the pre-season to try to build a squad capable of performing at a higher level but, as I said earlier, I must stay within my budget. There is a few players that I'd like to keep here but I think the club needs to be freshened up."

Montrose Release 20 players

Montrose manager Andy Potter has sensationally announced that every single Montrose player apart from John Maitland, Gordon Pope, Sean Crighton, Steven Coutts and Sean Fleming has left the club.

Potter said, "I have begun my evaluation of the squad and came to the conclusion that we should release all but 5 of our players. The club refreshed and to do that, we need a massive change in the playing staff. I had to make a snap decision as I need all the time I can get to secure a capable squad for next season. I thank the players on behalf of the fans and the club for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future, I will now begin my search along with my backroom team for new players."

When asked about a new assistant manager, Potter said "Like looking for players, I'm also on the lookout for an assistant manager and I hope to make an appointment in the near future. I understand that the fans want to hear answers about the club and I will announce everything that happens as soon as possible"

Montrose complete double signing

Montrose have signed veteran English defender Craig Taylor on a free transfer and have similarly signed Guus Uhlenbeek.

Taylor has been out of football for the last few years and last played for Torquay and could prove to be a risky signing. Manager Andy Potter stated "Craig will bring invaluable experience to the team as we have a young squad here, he will be here as a player but he will also be an advisor to our younger players who are still a bit raw.

Uhlenbeek is also a veteran player, even older at the age of 38, Potter said "Guus still has quality and he is a very versatile player, he plays anywhere down the right hand side and we hope to take advantage of that. He is from Surinam but speaks fluent English."

Montrose have upped their number of players to 10 after former Sunderland star Darren Holloway signed on a free. Holloway has been capped at youth level for England and at age 31, he looks like he may still have some gas in the tank.

Andy Potter said "Darren is a good player and he has played in the Premiership in England, that stat on it's own is very good for a Third Division side, I am pleased to complete the signing as I know that other clubs were chasing his signature."

Dundee-United-FC_270x200.jpg

Montrose have announced a new link between SPL side Dundee United, Montrose will be able to sign players on loan from Dundee United and a friendly will take place every season.
Montrose will also receive an annual fee from Dundee United and Dundee United will have first choice on Montrose players.

Andy Potter said "I am pleased to announce this link, Dundee United have a good setup and I think this is a good step for both clubs, obviously we have already signed Ross McCord from Dundee United and that deal will still go ahead as planned, I will look to sign another player or two from Dundee United. We had several offers from sides interested in becoming our parent club but I feel that the way things went with Ross McCord put the icing on the cake, I am very pleased to announce this partnership and I think both clubs will benefit from this deal."

Montrose sign another two

Montrose have signed Danny McDonald and Sean Kerr on free transfers. McDonald, 20, formerly played for Aston Villa, where he came through the youth system.

Kerr, 19, formerly played for Livingston and Dumbarton before being released at the end of last season.

Andy Potter, Montrose manager said "We are now close to having a full squad after we released the majority of it, we now have twelve players, we need to sign 5 more to complete a matchday squad but I reiterate, we want to sign the right players and now just sign at random. We are still in talks with players and agents so there may be another announcement in the near future. We only have one striker and one goalkeeper at this time so those are the areas we'd like to strengthen. Ideally we'd sign one goalkeeper and two more stikers, along with a midfielder and a defender but we'll wait and see what happens.

I hope to help Andy build a new squad as the season is getting much closer."
Meanwhile, former Everton youngster, Matthew Elder has joined the club on a free. Elder, 20, can play as a striker and as a defender, Elder said "I can't wait to get started, this is the move I've been waiting for now It's time for me to make it a success."

Gable Endies complete squad

Just a single day before Montrose's clash with first division side Raith Rovers, the club have tied up deals to sign Ryan Dow & David Shaw on loan from parent club Dundee United. Both have signed on loan for the season and aim to get some first team experience.

After having no pre season friendlies, Montrose will be short of match fitness for the match and could receive a pummeling from the side two divisions above them in the Challenge Cup clash but manager Andy Potter said "We are not going to lie down to them, we will go out and attack them and we'll see what happens, we have the squad pumped up and have absolutely no fear whatsoever, I can't wait for the game and neither can the players."

Montrose have been knocked out of the Challenge Cup after losing 2-1 at home to First Division side Raith Rovers.
Raith opened the scoring after 34 minutes when Johnny Russell scored a goal which looked to be offside but the referee allowed it. Russell fired home again just two minutes later, heading home a cross this time.
Montrose manager decided to throw on striker John Maitland at half time and the young striker scored after 50 minutes. Montrose pressed for the rest of the game but their attempts came to nothing.

Montrose manager Andy Potter said, "I think we are unlucky to go out of the cup today, I think we made a good account of ourselves against a team who play two divisions above us, the first goal was definately offside and I am annoyed with the officials for not seeing it , this error has knocked us out of the tournament and I think the referees should be of a higher standard."
