I'm having serious problems motivating my team and conducting team talks.

In games where I am serious underdogs, my players play out of their skin and I generally get at least a draw.

If the odds are much tighter or I am favourites, it's very common that I lose. Not just lose, but lose heavily.

The only team talk that seems to make the slightest bit of difference is "Pressure is off" but I'm wary to use this against teams I really should be beating.

"For the fans" seems to be the main culprit. It seems to be an instant performance ruiner.

Any pointers?

I agree the "for the fans" option is the kiss of death. Try individual encouragement, that sometimes works.

Here you go lads, this should shed some light on how to motivate your players...

Thanks Ma-Li, I'll try these theories out

I tried these theories and my first match was against Spuds.

I ended up losing 4-3 but I dominated large parts of the match and only lost to a 90+5 min goal after a dreadful error from the keeper (came out to kick the ball and just stood in front of it for ages doing nothign and a striker came in and took it off him. Noticed that happen in this game a few times for absoltuely no reason.)

The performance was noteably better though, hopefully I can make some progress
