Hi,

Ive bought a new laptop for my son for Xmas and he is mad about FM2011 which is installed on his old laptop. In the past, with FM2010 I managed to move his game data over to his current laptop without any hitches but when I do the same thing with FM2011 it errors and says cannot read file and then screws the screen resolution and the game needs restarting.

How do I move the game data over to the new machine?

Dai.

THe game data being his save files?

OK I'll assume you do mean his game save files.

Save them to a usb stick.

Install FM 2011 on new computer. - Then update the game to the same patch that the save was running on on the old laptop. Your choices are 11.0 (boxed unpatched version) 11.1 and 11.1.1

Once patched, replace save file in the folder you found it in, and away you go.

ok, the only part of the process I didnt do is update/patch the program (not sure if my son has updated his version on the existing laptop - is this an automated process or does it have to be carried out manually)

Also, on the new laptop, it has two Sports Interactive Directories which is a bit worrying since you should not be able to have two directories with the same name?

If your operating system is windows 7? It automatically creates two sports interactive folders for some weird reason.

Is it installed via steam?

If yes the steam automatically patches the game.

To find out what patch was on the old laptop, start a game and click game status. If you didnt install via steam you can download the patch required to amtch the version on the old laptop from our site.

edit, Seans answer about directories was better.

There are two directories because Windows 7 uses a concept called 'Libraries' where it to help you manage your Documents/Pictures better.

So in the Documents Library it includes My Documents and Public Documents.

It's possible to remove the Public Documents location though if it's confusing.

still not working

Im still not getting this working lads.

The games are both patched to the same level but when I try to load game data from the old laptop - the software throws an error "cannot load game data" and messes up the screen resolution which can only be resolved by restarting the game.

Would it make a difference if the old laptop is running Vista and the new laptop is running Windows 7 64bit?

Dont know, all Im doing is copying the files from one computer to the other has per the advice above?

Doens't you have to uninstall FM11 then install FM11 in your new PC?
The only thing you need to copy is your save games, skins, schedules, etc.

I can confirm I have installed the game on the new laptop and Ive just copied over the game data folder from the user folder on the old laptop.
