BBC News/Yorkshire reports:
Lee Strafford has called a press conference to announce the signing of experienced England international, former Sheffield Wednesday, Manchester United and Juventus star, Mark Colk.
The announcement comes 3 weeks after the Yorkshire club announced that Brian Laws was no longer in charge of the club after a poor season.
Lee Strafford stated that he was glad to welcome Mark Colk "back home [to Hillsborough] after remembering the times he used to watch Colk put in some crunching tackles whilst serving as a right back at the club.
Mark Colk has very fond recollections of his days as a footballer. Having been born in Sheffield, Colk played his first game for Wednesday at the age of 21, first in the striking position and due to his managers preference, he started playing deeper roles in the centre of midfield. However, after struggling to compete with the quality of the midfielders at the club, he decided to play a defensive role on the right side of the hallowed turf at Hillsborough... a patch of grass he later began to make his, and his alone. after 12 years at the club, Colk moved to Old Trafford in search of a new challenge. At his prime age of 33, Colk had already played for england 44 times, and scored an impressive 3 goals for a defender. after 4 years at Manchester United, playing an impressive 176 games and scoring 13 goals, he decided a relaxing move to Italy would suit him and his family. He joined Juventus, a club that was constantly pushing for first place, having been unsuccessful in winning the Scudetti for the 4 years that Colk was in Manchester. However, in the first year of his arrival, the Turin club had one the Serie A, with the defensive line at the club conceeding the least goals. Colk played for a further 3 years at the Del Alpi, finally calling time on his career at the age of 40 years, a young age to retire in comparison to some of the players during the time. He played a further 12 times for England scoring another 3 goals. His autobiography "Colk ; the man, the girls, and the balls" states that he was insistent that he would win the World Cup whilst playing for England, however, the competition in 78 was his last chance, as he suffered persistant knee problems, despite playing regular football at Manchester United and Juventus.
Colk has used his reputation to serve him well, despite a lack of transfer funds at the club, he has purchased a few good signing that he hope he can squeeze out 1 or 2 years out of, before calling it time on their own careers.
So far, Colk has signed:
Kikin Fonseca
Edgar Davids
Christian Vieri
Michael Ball
and Joe Hart
spending a total of 4.5 million pounds on Fonseca and Hart.
Colk released a statement during a press conference, introducing the players to his club:
"Im very proud of our signings, hopefully they can aid or objective which is finishing in a promotion spot... we've got a good keeper in Lee Grant, but I still insist that Joe Hart is one of the best goalkeepers in England, and he's young too. Edgar has a vast amount of experience and knowledge in the football world, so he'd come in handy in the midfield. Michael Ball... well, he's dirty... but so was I. Vieri is approaching his final days, and I think I can enable him to enjoy it here at this club, and im pretty sure he will enjoy banging in the goals for us, he's top scorer material if he stays injury free. Kikin, well, everyone admires his career, he'll be banging in the goals for us too. Him, teamed up with Vieri and some other admirable strikers we have here at the club, well... its an exciting year for the owls!
" I was a but disappointed to miss out on Henri [Camara] though. I had enquired about his availability, and his agent informed me on the phone that 2 hours prior to my phone call, he scribbled his signature along the lines at Bramall Lane. Thats a shame, to lose out a good player to our bitter rivals, but despite losing him, we still have a good team here that we can be proud of, and beating Sheffield United in any competition, whether it be league table, league cup, or just which club has the best looking manager, im sure we'll do them all."
The team here at BBCYorkshire are sure to follow what could be a promising season for what looks like a well built team of staff and players at Wednesday.

Pre Season
BBCYorkshire reporting from Hillsborough
Sir Mark Colk takes charge of his first game as manager at Sheffield Wednesday in a clash against Oldham.
The manager deciding not to play Lee Grant or Joe Hart in goal, suggestions are that they are taking a special goalkeeper training camp in the jungles of Brazil to improve their reflexes; it just gets crazier and crazier here in Yorkshire. We hope they come back with reflexes like a Spiderman. The man between the sticks is Richard O'Donnell. The only other piece of team news we can deliver at the moment is that Edgar Davids is the only one of the new signings that has a place in the starting line up.

BBC Sheffield Reports:
Manager at Sheffield Wednesday has so far survived 2 months at the helm of the Yorkshire club. Having an extremely successful pre season, his first game at Oldham was a disappointing loss, however, he soon turned thigns around and went on to win the next 5 pre season games comfortable scoring on average 3 goals per game, and his 1Million Pound transfer for Kikin Fonseca has proved to be a vital one.
On the first day of the championship, Mark Colk lead his team out to face Coventry, who the media have predicted as possible title champions, however, Sheffield Wednesday put the possibilities to one side, and swiped the floor clean with coventry with an impressive 4-0 win, again Kikin Fonseca proving he may have been worth more than his former club, Tigres, had thought he would be, scoring a hat trick on opening day.
The victory was followed by a draw to Peterborough, then followed by two disappointing defeats to Newcastle, and Plymouth. However Mark Colk had this to sawy following the two defeats:
"We were playing a side that last year were in the Premiership, they're superior. They still have some players that were used to playing in the higher league, and a one-nil defeat isn't too embarrassing. They have players like Alan Smith, the keeper - Harper, Jonas and Collocini are all players that have good experience, on top of bundles of talent.. i've been here 2 months now and I hope im doing a pretty good job, we've had a tough opening month to the league, and we beat title contenders, and we drew to Peterborough, which again isn't too bad considering the strength of their team... defeat to Newcastle, again isnt too bad. But what is still annoying me to this day is the loss to the Pilgrims... losing to Plymouth, a team at the bottom of the table after 3 games, we really expected a win there. There seems to be something wrong with my players, they aren't getting forward enough... which is worrying, but perhaps we've had a lot of games to play, and age is catching up. Perhaps a rest for a while will do them good. Dont forget we've also had two games in the league cup, which we both won 3-0... and now we look forward to welcoming Aston Villa to our grounds."

"Kikin Fonseca and manager Sir Mark Colk blast Sheffield Wednesday from 19th position, to 4th in just three games"
BBCSheffield
Manager Mark Colk and his 1Million Poudn signing, Kikin Fonseca have led the team from a lowly 19th place after 2 defeats, a win and one draw in the Championship, to a high flying 4th place with one game in hand. Sheffield Wednesday have played well for the past 3 games ever since defeat to the Pilgrims, winning every game by a margin of at least 2 goals. The most impressive of which, and slightly surprising was the 2-0 win over Middlesborough, who were separated from Sheffield Wednesday by 15 places in the League. Mark Colk lead his team out, with his last signing, Gresko, returning from injury. This seemed to make the back line a lot more solid that it was previously, and after a few motivating words to Lee Grant, he seemed back to his usual self. Manager Mark Colk is still waiting for Joe Hart to arrive on the 1st of July 2010, hoping that by this time Hart has the sufficient amount of experience to keep the team in the Premiership, if they get there.
The last match played was at Bramall Lane, where The Owls and the Blades clashed in magnificent fashion. Kikin Fonseca, again proving his worth scoring a a goal in the first half of the game, and two in the second half. However, on the stroke of half time, a Mark Colk favourite, Henri Camara, who he tried to sign had scored for the Red and Whites.
Sheffield Wednesday now sit in 4th position, and take on Aston Villa in the league cup tomorrow.
