Hi, so I'm new to this site but been playing CM/FM since mid 90s. I was never amazing with the sliders and tactics but always developed my own and did fine. I have read with interest the major frustrations that people are having this year using the new tactics and how players don't do as they are supposed to and how bad it is to watch on the ME. I am in my 3rd season with Salernitana and in first season wanted to build a passing, possession based team with slow build up and keep tight at the back etc etc. I used loads of team shouts such as Hassle, Press more, Close down, deep defensive line and so on. First season was up and down like a roller coaster. Defence played at half way line, massive gaps through middle- you've heard it all before.
Anyway the next season I decided to go back to basics and strip back the team shouts to only 5 in the hope it might be more consistent. Spent more time sorting player instructions and it really seemed to work. Much more consistent performances- defence much tighter (best in league by end of season), scoring wide range of balls from lovely through balls to set pieces to crosses. Good run in Coppa Italia and won Serie C cup. This season I'm 10-1-0 in first 11 of season.
So my long winded point is that in my experience the team shouts seem to have almost a destructive effect and less is better. Clearly it shouldn't be like that but for the meantime I'm winning so I'm happy.

Thoughts and disagreements welcome as always ^^)

Kingpug gets it right in the first sentence IMO, I find a lot of this years game is down to luck.
Picking the right formation, having a team of good players, using the shouts that best work for your set up are all secondary.

I know every year updates are released to improve the faults in the game but this years release version is shocking. I have been playing FM/Champ Man sine CM2 and this is the first time I have every had to stop playing the game due to the game being nowhere near the finished product.

FM is never a finished product on release day which is unfortunate. But experienced players know that and yet they still complain. Normally I don't get the game until it first goes on sale but this year I am playing my brother's review copy.

I haven't played enough to pass judgement but I think the problem is people are having a hard time adjusting to the new tactic creation system. They are either resistant to change or are not taking the time to get to understand it. People remember winning on their last 2013 save and just want to get back to that, always looking for the easiest way.

What I have noticed so far is that for player instructions, the need for sliders has been replaced by a larger variety of player roles. I no longer have to spend hours tweeking sliders to get my striker to play a False 9, instead I can just set it as his role and SI has done the work for me. In that way it does seem less indepth than previous years but I still need to spend more time with player instructions.
