Hey guys, my first post here.

I am a newly converted soccer fan (hint: started at 2010 World Cup, go Landon Donovan) and I thought I would try my first crack at any FM with the LA Galaxy, which is strong financially, and the MLS is very simple off the pitch (no scouting opponents, regions, no reserve/youth leagues, etc). Initially, I was using tactics centered around Donovan, who is the best player, however I eventually was forced to sell him because he wanted to move to a bigger club (one of the Serie A teams swooped in to buy him for around $9). The other really important cog in my attack was David Beckham, but at the end of his contract he was not interested in re-signing with my squad so I sold him before he walked for nothing.

It is now YEAR THREE.

My team's back four+keeper is absolutely stellar for the MLS, and I decided to try a defensive tactical approach to minimize how often I concede in light of the fact that I have lost my two best offensive players. Because I am playing more defensively (flat 4-1-4-1), I need to create more and better chances in dead ball situations when I can bring my big defenders forward (especially Omar Gonzalez, my best player remaining).

However, to do that, I need a dead ball specialist to fill the role left vacant by Beckham. Ideally, I need a midfield player (anywhere in the flat 4 midfielders) to take my free kicks and corners. I AM WILLING TO COMPROMISE ON OVERALL SKILL LEVEL FOR PLAYERS WITH VERY GOOD SERVICE!

Keep in mind when making suggestions that I do not have a lot of money available for transfers- no suggestions more than about $1.2M- and also that it can be difficult to attract players from European leagues to play in MLS because of lower salaries.

My thanks to all of you for your help.

Carlos Marinelli - Universidad San Martín in Perú not sure whether you'll have him loaded on your game, but worth taking a look.

Id look for some south america regens( the guys with cartooney faces). Also have a look at free agents. Could find somebody like rivaldo in there :)

Maybe Riquelme? He's maybe retired, but if you're 3 seasons into your game it's unlikely Boca are still using him and he's amazing at set pieces, so check him out.

Owen Hargreaves.

Free kicks 18
Penalties 18

He'll be quite old, but could probably sign him for under a million.

Thanks for your help guys. Darren, unfortunately Hargreaves was not interested in coming to MLS, I think I'll have to look for a South American player unless I get another suggestion.

Regardless I appreciate the prompt replies!

I would suggest someone like Eric - Gaz Metan (on loan from Metropolitano Sc, to be honest I am not too sure exactly what the deal is with him when the game starts) when he gets back from loan his value would drop substantially :)

here is a few of his goals so far:

and someone like Kim Jung Woo - Seongnam (he is a very good midfielder and is pretty good from set pieces too) wont cost more than 1.1 million

or Mohammed Abou Trika - Al Ahly (will be around 34 or 35 but has great technical stats)

or Vicente - Ceara

or Sebastian Pardo - Union Temuco (1.5 k)

there are quite a few more, what I would suggest is doing a filter with the "unrealistic players' box ticked and put in free kicks 16 at least....

hope this helps a little :)

You may try Carlos Villanueva, amazing technical attributes.

My thanks to everyone for the suggestions but especially to Raikan007. I have decided to go with Sebastian Pardo, as he is good technically and also offers pace (got him for only about 100k- seems like his value has gone up since the start of the game). Thank you so much everyone.

Christian Pander for Schalke in Germany, hes a left wing back not a midfield however i think he can play left mid, his crossing is 19 and free kick taking 18 so he specialises there, he should only cost a few million if you still have the donovan money

Hope this helps

well not sure if he's a specialist, but effective is Ivan Rakitic......95% of his goals are long range shots or bended free kicks...a must for any saved game.
