Hello,

im currently in my 2nd season with liverpool, i won the champs leauge and fa cup in my 1st but my consistency in the league is non-existence, i come 7th in the league! and only got in champs league this season since i won it.

I bough dzeko and verrati in my 1st season and got rid of babel, kuyt, ngog and many more to be able to afford dzeko and co.

I bought agueiro in my 2nd and a.ramsey.

The team and tactic i play is 4-1-2-1-2
torres/dzeko up top
aguero top of diamon
gerrard/ramsey (maybe lucas if im away or need better def)
mascararno bottom of diamon
insua/carrager/agger/johnson at back

i revert my tactic to classis with arrows and have all def arrowed back with stevy g arrowed forward.

i play fast tempo, very narrow widpth due to no wingers, small creativity and attacking with a medium high line. also use playmaker (gerrard) and target men, dzeko/torres/agueiro

got good backroom staff ad young players like verrati and ramsey, js bought young defender called papoulpoutouis or whatever his name is.

can anyone shed anylight on where i am going wrong with my tactics?? as i seem to be slipping up against th lower teams and allowing my friend who i network with chance to get ahead with his arsenal who dont seem to concede :(

well with my liverpool i went for 3 cms and one am two strikers i recommend you put dzeko as target man support-torres would be complete forward attack and aguero if upfront would be poacher, as for the three cms i prefer stevie as a deep lying play maker , mascherano as ball winning midfielder and the third depends on the player maybe box to box....hope that helps..

Dude you hate wingers or what ?? LOL
I am not sure about transfer market tactics. Getting rid of wingers like Kuyt and Babel and bringing midfielders instead makes your team very rigid in formation. You cant play wing play now.

Plating midfield will not work against certain teams. ( Like those who play 4-2-3-1 )

And dont make all ur forwards as target men. Dude they will just keep shooting from the box. use a fine finisher like Torres, as complete forward or advanced forward.

Gerrard as playmaker is fine. But either play Lucas regularly or get someone who is a speciallist CM (Good passer and marking). Playing ramsey will hamper mental attributes needed in CM position as Gerrard will run forward. Or either play masch as defensive CM too. (Dont put him as DM)

Best suggetion will be .... get a good winger.. maybe 2 if you dont like Riera :P

You need to link your Attack to your Midfield, you are keeping youre 2 strikers isolated upfront, try dragging one of them out to the side and make him inside forward, and take your AMC and make him an AML or AMR as winger or inside.

You need wingplay, it connects the team togethether and allows for full backs to bomb down the flanks and cross in.

Try play augero as a trequiesta to link up your attack to midfield.

Also i'd advise you to replace insua with someone better. When looking for fullbacks I just retain a DMC. Hargreves*, annan, jermaine jones all make excellent fullbacks.

Thanks for the replies.

Alot of them seem to focus on wingers, i play 4-1-2-1-2 so dont play wingers, and as such sold them all, riera, babel, kuyt, ngog etc all gone, l`pool dont get much spending money 1st reason so i got rid of alot of the rubbish, im also a l`pool fan and dont like these players so perhaps slightly biased aswell.

Ive attached a screen shot as asked to show how i play it, aguero behind the front two is fantastic with gerrard js behind him. Scoring goals isnt really the problem, i destroy some teams, beat everton 8-0 this season at home and also manu 3-0 away an chelsea 3-1 away.

Heres hw i come 7th thou last season, beating bolton 3-0 at ht, drawn 3-3, beating fulham 2-0 at ht, drawn 2-2. I score enough goals to win and scored the 2nd most goals in the league last season even thou i finished 7th. I concede thou and it costs me 3 points, seem to have high score draws quite abit.

i like the idea of only having torres as targetman, i must admit, my long shots had increased alot, good idea ;)
ive put up my 1st team, if im away or playing a top attacing team (arsenal fr example) il play lucas over ramsey and i also countattack wen i play away, perticularly against the tops teams as i tend to sit back more and go for the win in the 2nd half.

But like i said, i dont see th need for wingers, i won champs leauge an fa cup in 1st season an also got to league cup final (but lost to city in ET) so im not sure thats the problem, isthe tactic i play mean im suspect to cncdeding goals or is it because my def is not up to scratch, i will be lookin to improve the def after this season, i got 53m to spend (73m wen adjusted) in my 2nd season after winning 2 cups.

look forward to your next replies.

p.s...i always like playing players in there best positions. i.e bright green, is it ok to play them in normal green colour? and also is it better to play with the old classic style like i currently do, im sitting in joint 2nd postion at moment with chelsea 25 games in but 4 points behind my friend who is arsenal.

:D

I'd suggest playing Lucus as a ball winning midfileder. I had the same problem with Atletico (lots of goals for and against) and moving my CDM up to CM and playing him as a ball-winner really help me pressure the other team, win the ball back and therefore concede less goals. I also played my defence deeper and made the two CBs close down less so they don't get dragged out of position. If you want a CB to buy, try Zapata.

I don't know about in footy manager, but in real life man marking>zonal. Remember Ivanovic's brace against Lpool due to Liverpools zonal marking system.
