Im Derby County and what is some good team instructions to have for championship I'm playing 4-2-3-1 ? And should I change my tactics? Someone pleaseee help!

I have played a similar formations with Coventry for the last few years that has worked well.

I play 4-1-1-3-1 with the DM and CM on different sides - like so:

RB---CB---CB---LB
----------DM----
-----CM---------
RAM----AM----LAM
--------FW--------

I operate with my complete wingbacks and my widemen as inside forwards and my CM as box-to-box. I use a counter tactic, with short passing play, overlapping full backs, high tempo with players set to hassle opponents. Currently I am using a target man but sometimes alternate to an advanced forward.

This achieved me back to back promotions and has me in 5th in the Prem first season 20 or so games in. Get your players used to it by increasing match prep and hopefully will work for you. Will Hughes is a boss just behind the striker. I signed him and play him as an advanced playmaker but I may have a little tinker with this! Good luck!

EDIT: made formation "diagram" a little easier to read. Can post screenshots if necessary.

That would be great to see some screenshots, of tactics and could you let me know some of the signing you made in championship ? Could you explain what you mean about match prep? Thanks for reply

Here is the tactic I use. I don't consider myself some kind of FM guru so you may need some tweaking to make this work for you. Eg role of AM and DM is up for debate, same with striker. If your striker isn't good in the air I'd lose the "float crosses" instruction and adopt "drill crosses". When I was referring to match prep, keep this high on your training and train "tactics only" so that your players adapt to the new tactic asap. A lot of people chop and change tactics and lose games simply because their team hasn't adapted to use it yet. (I will post a follow up post with recommended signings)

As for signings:

Rhys McCabe. Solid box-to-box midfielder. He cost me under ?700k and is performing well in the Prem.
Harry Maguire. Wanted to leave Sheff Utd and I snapped him up for ?800k. Good defender who develops well.
Cristiano Biraghi. Admittedly I bought this guy in the Prem for ?1.1mil but he has been solid at left back. If you can get him in the Champ he will be one of your best performers.
Chris Katongo - a pacey (yet ageing) right winger who fit well into my system and was a steal at under ?400k.
Uffe Bech - never signed him but my scouts returned a report saying he'd be available for approx ?300k - considering he's a pacey left mid I would certainly pay that (only reason I wouldn't now is I have Sarabia - ie poor man's Eden Hazard, so I have no need for him... His value may be higher though... send a scout!)
If Coventry are still under poor ownership I would look to ****** some of their players. John Fleck is brilliant in the Championship, Cyrus Christie is a consistent RB with good potential.
My biggest recommendation would be keeping hold of Will Hughes! If you can get him a tutor with high mental stats (determination etc) you'll be onto a winner.

For the record I do use a huge, custom database so some of these players may not be available. What kind of transfer/wage budget do you have? I could always do some further delving, though these forums will likely have good threads with recommendations for Championship signings.

Cheers for the list of players, be hard to sign anyone at the moment haven't got much money trying to off load some of the deadwood my wage is down a bit as well. Players i have signed are....

Cyrus Christie - Got right at the start of the season, cost me 550k probably could of got him for cheap now i'm thinking out it, Hes been good so far. I seen you recommended him as well, could you possibly show me a screenshot of his stats so i can see how much he improves ?

John Mensah - Got him on a free cannot really complain hes a good addition to the squad, Hes 30 but his stats are decent. Think hes only on a years contract so.

Lee Wallace - Bought him from Rangers for 300k hes really good actually was in desperate need for a Left Back, hes only 26 and can play LM as well so hes not bad a suppose.

Apostolos Vellios - Got him on loan from Everton hes got some decent stats good jumping reach and strength

Thats all the signings av made but hopefully bring some more in at January. I have won pretty much every game since av played that tactic so cheers for that, not sure how to upload screenshots.

Download Gyazo, then when you have grabbed your image it will pop up in an internet window. Right click and save the image and click the picture icon above/in the quick reply box. Then select the file and click upload.

Glad the tactic is working for you! Hope it continues to do so. My screenshots of Cyrus Christie are near useless as I bought Nathaniel Clyne for ?2.5mill (steal) in my Champ season so Cyrus's development was hindered. He has good stats though and is very consistent, just a shame for him that Clyne is superb!

Here is my tactics and instructions pretty much the same as yours if not identical hahah

I have dropped Cyprus Christie he has been on a bad form and past couple of games been having trouble on my striker carnt seem to find one who i can stick with cause none of them are really performing to a high standard so any tips of bringing some one in on loan maybe? might have to wait actually till January. Here is my League table only `` games in but didt start the season to good in my first 3 games but doing alright now.
