Well let me start by saying im by no means a tactical genius....far from it so id like some expert opinions to try sort out my tactic iv been having pretty good success with but its lacking that little bit.

The Shape

The Instructions

Thats my tactic and its been pretty good for me for the last 3 seasons winning the BPL, coming 2nd twice, winning the league cup twice and getting to FA Cup finals and sadly getting beat.
I have tweaked it during this time just a little i used to play 5-2-2-1 with no CDM but i put the CDM in to try stop the problems il explain shortly and i feel its a little more solid now but still not great.

The main problems are...
  • Wing Backs never cross they always try and shoot even tho i have set them to shoot less often and cross more. I also trained them to have Looks for pass rather than shoot ppm
  • Concede alot from crosses
  • Getting Like 20 shots a game but only 9 or so on target (dont let shoot on sight fool you there not all wasted long shots its mainly the ****** full backs getting them and missing)
  • My advanced playmaker no matter who i put there seems to play awful some games as low as 4.9 i need tips on how i should set him up
  • Struggle at times against big teams who cross alot
I rarely dominate possession but generally restrict the opposition to under 5 shots a game even when they have a far superior possession but sometimes the matches will just tick by with nothing happening at all. Il show u my Best wing backs and Playmaker if that will help figure out why they arent crossing and why the playmaker struggles so badly sometimes.

Playmaker
Xenofon Kitsios Instructions

Wing backs
Yasinne Zaza Instructions
Orlando Salazar

dont get me wrong last year both the wing backs scored 8 goals each which is pretty impressive but at the same time they must of missed 4 chances a game each its so frustrating when ur watching and all thye have to do is roll it across for a tap in.

Id like to just add if theres anyway to make all my goals come fromt he striker that would be great lol

Any help greatly appreciated!!

well the ME did nothing wrong, the wb's are supposed to shoot with your setup, and you shouldn't discourage them...either get better wingbacks, or change your approach completly, and formation too perhaps...

i think theres something wrong when instead of nocking it across the 6 yard box for a tap in they shoot from the tightest of angles even tho i have every instruction set to cross and even trained them to look for pass instead of the shot

have you tried setting them up to cut inside? PPM's would be best for this.

having your WB's to cut inside will deliver more attention through the centre of the pitch and can act like an inside forward.

you could also add them to play one two passes which will add more possession and more creativity within the centre of the field meaning your AMC & Strikers will also contribute more.

for me I always have my WB's PPM's set up as the following ----

Knock ball past opponent - cut inside - plays one two passes

this way they can act as a winger and stretch the defenders, act as inside forwards for either a shot from an angle position are even a through ball, and act as an extra midfielder for a passing game in the final third

when you have a narrow formation with no wing support like your 5-2-2-1 your WB's will act as a winger and shoot from stupid angles and make careless crosses to no man's land, in real life this is used for defensive purpose to get the rest of your players back into shape hence the daft shots off target

I havent tried this but i will give it a go and see what the outcome is thanks

this doesnt really make sense to me at all why would they do that when there is a tap in available lol

also with the team instructions I would take off pass into space and shoot on sight, with only 2 players ( ST & AMC ) they don't have much ground to cover up top and to have much deeper D-line this will make things harder for your AMC to create chances for your striker so personally I would remove the 2 instructions.

I would also consider removing direct passing and leave no passing instructions at all, this will give your lads better areas for either short and direct passing and contribute more in the attacking phase

sometimes your WB's will get tap ins but this is really a wingers job since they have better attacking options and have better support from the WB's and won't get exposed to much

ok il look into it what if i played a higher line would passing into space be ok?

I dont play wingers so Wing backs are my only option im trying to create an attacking wing back who will cross all day every day but it just wont happen

that's what I was trying to explain mate about WB's, if you have wingers they will probably cross all day every day and this would be because they have WB's for support so they have cover at the back.

but you have no wingers meaning when they cross it will be a defensive phase crosses but not all the time though because you have 3 defenders and 1 wide CB will act for support.

why don't you try completely removing all the player instructions on your WB's and develop from there? this worked for me in the past and Iv'e kept to it ever since

but if memory serves me right I think it was ---

run wide with ball - cross more often

but I removed drilled crosses from team instructions so that the WB's would be able to cross high and low

sorry i took so long to get back on this but it has finally clicked!! I have won the League multiple times and the Champions League last year. Im absolutely destroying boys now my wingers cross alot more strikers are scoring bucket loads and getting a lot of CCC's loving it :)

Wing Back
Team Instructions

iom literally destroying teams i scored 105 and conceded 20 in the league last year i even beat Barca 6-0 at home in the CL Semi Final
