Need Tactic Advice

I'm playing a 4-3-1-2 formation my defence is solid and my whole team as ratings are playing at 6.7's + but the problem is that i cant seem to be able to break down teams. I keep getting "we're getting shots on goals but they're from too far out to be a regular threat feedback from my assitant. Now i have tried the instruction work the ball in to the box still cant seem to break down teams even though my team is stronger. I have a lot of creative players yet i cant seem to break teams down. Any ideas?

Play wider and make your fullbacks more attacking and adventurous so that they can provide width.Allow freedom in the midfield for your playmaker(s) to also exploit the flanks.

Have a Target Man-Poacher combo.

Thanks for replying, but if i play wider do i have to play direct?
