i have got a back five of: ben foster in goal, joe mattlock lb,glen johnson rb and sakho and mancienne cb but still concede way too many.i score for fun but cant seem to keep it tight at the back.anyone got any ideas for tactics etc??

Man Mark, Deeper Defensive Line, Higher Defensive Line (Play offside) Direct passing from the defenders, check out your set piece setup. etc etc. The list is endless. Watch a few of your games and then,

Ask yourself:
What kind of goals am I conceding??
Why?

I play a back 4 and have only conceded 5 goals in 15 League games so it can be done.

i have the same problem but the type of goals im conceding are long shots. they cost me the game all the time and mostly there so far out its unbelievable. for example koumas scores from 30-40 yrds out!! how the **** do i stop them?

you players are probably not closing players down quick enough

my tactic has got closing down in own half only, but ill try closing down more. still feel annoyed at conceding shots thats beckham would be proud of from not as good players

If your playing tight man marking then your back 4 need to have high stats in marking an concentration, then you will be water tight.

Closing down in own half is solid for your defenders but your midfield and strikers have to close down a bit more or you'll leave space in front of the defensive line for players to tee up long shots. From the sound of things, you may need to look at the DMC/MCd position as that should be the one putting pressure on players who are getting between the defensive line and the midfield line.

i tweaked my tactics a little. ive now got the team closing down the whole pitch, just above normal. ive also got fellaini in a MC position tracking back. seems to have done the trick having won 4-0 WBA, but maybe thats just because its WBA i dont know

ive got tight marking and zonal marking but im wondering about changing to man marking as thre everton back 4 have got marking stats agt around 15-16

look for gooners tactic. Its on here on this forum somewhere.I use it and never change the settings, just improved the players.
Now in one whole season i only conceeded 7 goals and scored 89.
It took the team about 18 months to fully adopt the settings and learn to play together fully.I only introduced 2 new players into the squad in each transfer window. These were mostly 1 striker,1 midfielder.again let the players learn each other out and before you know it they pass it about beautifully.
You will soon find players start getting cocky and thinking they can just turn up to win so what i did was have 2 or 3 very high quality wonderkids in the reserve.
Bring them into the first team and drop the cocky ones.fine them and send them to the reserves.
also look at the teams your up against.i used to find lyon were too tough and i would get hammered.but i learnt to change the mentality to more defensive and move in a defensive midfielder with arrow pointing toward the defenders.Set team passing to long and make sure the striker was fast. You will be surprised the amount of times i sneaked a 0-1 away win in the champions league.
Just like watching liverpool.jammy.lol
