Tactics

"We are trying to get these boys to play a good brand of football an exciting brand of football, It's quite a continental style with short moves and always looking for the man in space... we know at times it might be to our detriment but we believe we can show the fans a spectacle and develop our players better this way"

Pre Season

View attachment 342459

"We played well considering we had 7 trialists and a new formation against which was a full strength Spurs Squad , A couple of these boys on trial gave themself a good chance of something more - Jody Morris the veteran Midfielder came in and was excellent in the middle of the park and even put one past The france No.1 Lloris"

View attachment 342458

Next up for Millers team was Championship side Birmingham

View attachment 342457

"A great performance from the lads to show that they can give these big teams a run for the money and we never stopped trying right until the last kick with Big Chris Zebroski scored to level things up and give the fans something to cheer about. We were really impressed with Lewis Toshney at the back he was let go by Celtic and we think he could be a good fit for our side "

VI for Villans

View attachment 342455

"The less said about this game the better, We were poor and sold ourselves short and if you make it easy for quality opposition they punish you and that's exactly what happened"

Welsh derby

View attachment 342454
"We gave Newport a sense of pride standing up to Swansea and going toe to toe with them and there big name stars and showed that we have a fight and desire to bring the same sort of success to Newport as Swansea have for their supporters and big Jody Morris done himself a lot of favors he has really impressed us again"

Summary

Some really encouraging performances against some better quality opposition than we will play for the season , We were impressed how we held our own baring the Villa result.

From the Trialists will be looking to offer deals to Lewis Toshney, Jody Morris and Alvaro Gonzalez

Love it, hopefully you can dethrone Swansea as the kings of the welsh sides.

After all the positive feelings and comments that were made it took Stevenage only 5 minutes to break through when a slip from centre back Bryan Anthony allowed Darius Charles to be one on one with Jamie Stephens and the stevenage striker took the ball round the Stephens to make it 1-0 to Steveange

View attachment 341950

It went from bad to worse for Newport when Byron Anthony made another mistake from a corner and let his man Jon Ashton free and allowed Stevenage to go 2-0 up after only 25 minutes

Cue the Newport fightback : It took only 8 minutes of screaming from Manager Gavin Miller to get his side back in the game when Graham Burke linked up with Chris Zebroski in a nice move to make it 2-1.

That goal changed the game and Newport were on the ascendancy after an early capitulation, The second half so Newport go close a couple of times for the equalizer.

On the 80th minute Newport drew level when Andy Sandell crossed for Chris Zebroski to net his brace with a bullet header past the helpless Chris Day

Newport drew Charlton in the Capital One Cup first round.

A game in which Charlton were expected to win comfortably especially with there new signing like igor vetokele who has played in the champions league before and now finds himself up against lowly Newport.

Pre Match :

"This is a game where we will go out take it to Charlton and see where it takes us"
"we are throwing new signing Mark Bradley straight into the starting 11"

Match Report

View attachment 341724

A fairly even game with both teams having the same amount of shots on goal and there was only a little difference in the possession.

Charlton nearly took the lead with a header from Jordan Cousins being cleared off the line by Newport new boy Mark Bradley in the first half.

To the surprise of most in Rodney parade Newport took the lead when new signing Mark Bradley found space in the box with a 1-2 move with spanish midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez and the Welshmen on his debut blasted past Stephen Henderson.

This was to be the only goal of the game and send Newport into the second round with a tie against premier league club Stoke which is sure to be a good away day for the Newport faithful.

Match report

View attachment 341536

It took 33 minutes for Newport to break the deadlock and new signing Morgan Fox
Followed the same suit as last weeks new signing Mark Bradley by scoring on his debut with a well executed finish from the young left back.

View attachment 341532

Chris Zebroski doubled there lead after half time with a brilliant ball from Morgan Fox and Zebroski headed home.

Cambridge scored what was to be a consolation by the end of this game with Ryan Donaldson finishing from close range from a parry from Jamie Stephens.

Another new signing making his home league debut in Lewis Toshney Scored his first goal with what was quite a strange goal with a long diagonal actually going staight in with Cambridge claiming for a foul.

Newport got off to a poor start when Summer Loan signing Mark Bradley put through his own net with a clearance slicing into his own net from Stuart Beavon cross.

"Being a Welshmen myself if it wasn't us playing Newport I would want them to do well but We know we have to go out there and do a job as they have a few tricky players"

Match report

View attachment 341061

A fantastic occasion for the Newport fans to see some of the Premiership regulars like Stephen Ireland , Steve Sidwell , Jonathan Walters and Stoke summer signing Anderson.

But it was on 33 minutes another man who belongs to the premiership in on loan Aston Villa man Graham Burke gave newport fans something to go crazy about with a great finish a flick on by Rene Howe to net past England u21 keeper Jack Butland

View attachment 341060

Newport in dreamland leading a premiership team but that dream was dealt a blow when just before half time Jonathan Walters latched onto a Stephen Ireland pass to level the score just before half time

View attachment 341059

After half time Stoke were doing everything they could to win this in 90 minutes but everything they were throwing at Newport Keeper Jack Stephens was being dealt with in a commendable way by the young Keeper.

That was until Stoke brought on Mame Biram Diouf who was on the pitch for less than 10 minutes before he scored the goal that won the match for Stoke with a burst of pace latching onto a long ball from Ryan Shotton and blasting past the Newport Keeper who was left helpless.

Post Match Comments:

"We gave it our all , We defended well considering the caliber of player we were up against - We can hold our heads high "

"Jack Stephens showed tonight why he was at liverpool before and showed us that he can be a number 1 for a top team if he continues to develop with us"

View attachment 341058

It looked like Newport had a cup hangover when after 10 minutes Billy Paynter put Carlisle ahead when he was left free at the back post to tap in.

Newport equalised through Young Striker Graham Burke who has now scored 4 goals in 5 games for Newport and is already looking like a good deal.

The teams were level until the 55th minute when Graham Burke was brought down in the box and Adam Chapman Stepped up to the spot and converted to make it 2-1

View attachment 341056

Newport then looked like they had wrapped up all 3 points when Striker Rene Howe Slotted home from an Adam Chapman pass.

View attachment 341055

There was to be a late goal for Carlisle when Josh Gilles scored a header late on but the ref blow the whistle straight after the goal.

Post Match Interview:

"we played well today and showed we have some good attacking options Graham Burke and Rene Howe were both excellent"

"We looked a little tired towards the end but we were able to hang on for the points"

"I don't think we will bring anyone else into the club , We have a budget and that's what we work towards"

"We are happy with the business we have done and we think the 6 players we brought in permanently are all under 22 so we are hoping these players develop with us and can either help us challenge for promotion but im also a realist if these players develop well and clubs look at them as long as we get the right money we will sell them on"
