Heya!

First off im new to FM series, i've played other manger sims before. (EHM 07 and some older baseball ones. I don't like baseball anymore thou so i stop playing them years ago)

I figured playing a lower level team would be the best way to learn the game so i pick Pisa in Italy's C1/B. In my first year i like to think i did good. I got to the finals in the C Series cup only to lose on away goals ( *cries* ) and i placed 5th in the league losing in the first round of the playoffs. I played with a 4312 the whole season and it did me well, and i'm using it this season and its doing good so far.

But after watching the matches i'm seeing how most of the goals are being scored on me. My LD or RD is pulled out to the corner or closer to the touch line and a AM or M runs in on the post and my CD's don't seem to pick them up. they don't seem to want to cover the open post. I'm thinking about moving to a 5-3-2 and moving up the LD and RD to wingers to help move the ball up the field. I don't have the wingers right now to use this tactic but i want to use match prep to teach everyone this tactic so they can use it well next year. Seeing they don't have a per set tactic with that setup should i used the 5-3-2 or 3-2-3-2 in match prep? Also if you have any tips on other ways to plug the hole i am all ears.

Also when i started Pisa was and Old team with a bad youth team. I've been trying to add younger players and good players for my U-20 team. My U-20 team got 1st in there tier and did well in the U-20 cup. My question here is how important is it to work on my youth team? Should i try to spend some of my transfer money to keep them up? Right now im just following my staffs advice on propects (i scout them and sign them if i like there good) and i use the Italy trail game to sign a few young players. Also how important is your youth facilities? I asked the board and there are upgrading mine now. Is that a good thing or really just a waste of time?

Sorry for the long post but any help would be welcome.

Thanks!

Mac

1st of all, i'm not a tactic genius but i know some bits of it. i think it might be best 5-3-2 or why don't you use the 4 at the back formation? If you don't have Wingers or full backs...why don't you buy some? Get a parent club, ask your board for one and that club will send you players on loan for nothing! What about free transfer?

Youth is one of the most important things in the game for me personally. Developing youth players are good like say once there was a regen in my club who is in my u18 squad (England) and he had huge potential, potential to become a world class player and thats all to do with my youth facilities. If you have great facilities, you generate better regens and help youngsters grow better.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't done the parent club thing yet, but ill give it a go. I have Full backs but some of my full backs don't play wing very well at all. And if i use 5-3-2 i would like my flanks to be up a bit to help with ball movement. Also I don't think ill be using the 5-3-2 until next season, i want my players trained near Fluid before using it.

Some more youth questions/staff training.

I have all my training at 3 stars, one is at 2 1/2 stars. Is that ok or is it below C1/B levels?

When the season started my ast man got a bunch of local kids for my u-20 club, but they were all 1/2 stars. Is there anyway i get set it up so that they have to ask me if i want them to join the club instead of them auto joining. I now have over 30 players on my u-20 with quite a few of them being 1/2 stars. I only need a few to fill back up roles.

Thanks again for the help!

No problem mate, glad i helped you. The parent club thing is a definite as not only you get loans from them for no fee or wages, you get a fee for having them as your parent club like 40k a week :). But sometimes if your unlucky, the board will come back with no results on parent clubs :/. Happened to me once.

Your training is ok, maybe a bit poor. What is best is having them at 4 stars. Which is better. It's not below C1/B levels but maybe a bit below average. But despite that the 3 stars are ok. Try and find a good coach and he can up some of it up a bit. Try the free transfer and find a coach that has no club that has decent stats.

Also i think you can stop that by going into team settings and somehow fixing it..am not quite sure.

What I have learnt, over 3 years of playing this, is that you need to start thinking about what your team is good at, and what your weaknesses are. I.e If you were Aston Villa, they have 3/4 very fast players, and one top class crosser. Maybe a counter - attacking style because they are fast and good at making quick decisions?
Darren Bent is also a brilliant poacher (I won the league in the first season with them, using this main idea).

Watch full matches too, see what is going wrong and what you can do to change it. Make notes as well.
