Hello. I'm managing Newcastle in the preseason of season 2. I finished in 4th in season 1 and had thought that I'd finished all of my transfer business, until PSG offered my ?25 million up front for Santon(He's valued at ?13.5m). Should I take it? I already have a remaining transfer budget of ?15m, plus the ?25m from the sale would mean I could afford to replace him. I play with full backs set to support in my tactic and last season Santon wasn't amazing (7.09 Average Rating, 0 goals and 2 assists in the league). My first thought upon receiving the offer was to accept, the only issue being - who would I get to replace him? The obvious choice was Luke Shaw, but a scout report not long ago said it would require a minimum amount of ?30m, and I'm not sure if he's worth it. Plus Santon can easily play at right back too.

So, should I accept or decline? Or ask for more money even? And if accept, who should I get to replace him?

Thanks!

I would accept in a heartbeat. Santon has never performed for me, despite all indications that he should perform very well. I wonder if it's his hidden stats (consistency, important games, etc.). Luke Shaw develops into a world class player, I'd definitely buy him if your budget can stretch that far. If you're looking for a versatile defender who can play on either side, look at Nathaniel Clyne, also from Southampton. He never gets as good as Luke Shaw, but he's a solid Premier League defender and is a versatile backup.

You can also train players to a new position. That's a pretty useful thing to do, it doesn't take that long to become accomplished.

S.Coleman is good and usually does good at either RB/LB or Alex Sandro? Gibbs? Cresswell?

Santon is actually excellent for me as CWB, dunno why he didn't work out for you.. But Clyne is ok-ok, I wouldn't bother with him.

Try Alex Sandro or Jonathon Silva. Both are excellent. Luke Shaw is fantastic as well, he won me multiple games on his own too. Ben Davies is another decent option.

I think it might be because I don't play with Wing Backs or CWBs, as Santon is more of an attacking defender. I'll have another look at Shaw and see if I can get him for a reasonable price, as I'd prefer English due to their home grown status (As Newcastle have almost no English players haha)

Thank you for the advice.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to accept and look at getting an English replacement for the home grown status. I'll look at Shaw first, then if he's too expensive I'll look at Clyne, Gibbs or Cresswell. :)

Try Lucas Digne. Should be able to pick up for around ?6m and goes on to be class.

Or Santiago Garcia who will be cheap and steady performer but does get booked a lot!
