Shock Managerial Appointment At Dragao
After the sudden shock resignation of Head Coach Jesualdo Ferreira, FC Porto Chariman Pinto da Costa called a press conference earlier this afternoon, appointing unknown Englishman Stuart Watson as the club's new Head Coach. Earlier in the week, big names including Quique Flores, Bernd Schuster, Roberto Mancini and even Luiz Felipe Scolari were linked with the job.
On the appointment, Pinto da Costa said that "the desicion was an unanimous choice of the board, and was more about the job in hand than the media attention of a high profile appointment."
Watson is following in the footsteps of one of the greatest managers of all-time, the late, great Sir Bobby Robson, who also managed the Dragoes from 1994-19986, winning two succesive league titles, and a Portuguese Cup, with an impressive 81 wins in 120 games. Whether Watson has the talent to emulate the legendary manager's success is still unknown, and the Porto fans are expectant of silverware to add to their already impressive trophy room.
Stuart Watson said "I am really pleased to have the chance to work here, it's a fantastic club with a great following, and it was impossible to turn down the job. I have many critics, but I intend to prove them wrong by winning games, and steadily building a side that can challenge Europe's elite."
SQUAD
Goalkeepers
At thsi point, my keepers should serve me well, but I will be keeping an eye out for a new keeper for next season.
Defenders
Relatively strong, may need a couple of decent Full-Backs in to cover.
Midfielders
Promising midfield, however I may need a little strengthening.
Strikers
No problems here, the strongest position.
I have the target to win the League this season, and I have been given a budget of 10m to spend.
Preferred Lineup(before signings)
A good lineup, may slightly need improving.
