Nintendo released the DS in 2004 and it became an instant rage in the hand-held gaming consoles market. The DS created a buzz worldwide and everyone wanted to get their hands on this, as it was different from the Game-boy, the Game-cube and all the other earlier offerings of Nintendo. The DS has evolved over the years and we have seen two other versions of it, namely the DSLite and DSi. These have enabled Nintendo to have an upper hand on the hand-held gaming consoles market and this is clear from the fact that the combined sales of the DS, DSLite and DSi have crossed the 100 million mark (as of early 2009), a feat which has not been achieved by any another hand-held gaming console.

Over the years, quite a few Accessories for the DS have hit the market, let us have a look at some of the most prominent and commonly used ones:
-A GameBoy Advance extension port on the DS: With this, the GameBoy Advance cartridges can be used easily on the DS.
-Rumble PAK: When attached to the console, it provides feedbacks, i.e., while playing, for select situations such as loss of life or while being fired upon, etc. it vibrates to draw the player's attention.
-Nintendo MP3 player: The MP3 player cartridge is inserted into the GBA slot and the cartridge has a separate head-phone port, using which we can listen to high-quality music in the Sleep Mode.
-Nintendo DS Digital TV Tuner: This accessory comprises a Digital TV tuner card, which is inserted in the DS card slot. The secondary screen of the DS, which is a touch-screen, is used to change the channels and the other screen is where the TV is broadcasted.
-WiFi MAX: This accessory from Datel can be used as an Access point, as well as a standard WLAN adapter. This can be used with other devices as well such as PSP, PDA's, etc.
-DS Motion Card: This is a motion sensing accessory for the DS, which provides complete motion-sensing, once it is plugged into the DS card slot. It comes with a 3-axis accelerometer and a gyroscope.
-FlashMe: This is one of the most commonly available booting tools for the DS.
-GBA Movie Player: It is a slot-2 accessory and requires a booting tool such as FlashMe, PassMe, etc.
-Play-Yan: Intially it was released as GameBoy Advance accessory, but later found its way to the DS as well. It is an adaptor which allows the users to play MPEG4 videos and MP3 songs from SD cards on the DS.
