In the current version (FM2010) there is no such thing as a winning tactic that can be employed in every match, every home match or every away match. Just like in real life you have to be able to adapt your tactics, including formations, to improve your chances against each team that you play.

FM2010 gives you the perfect tool to achieve this in the form of the 'Backroom Advice' screen. Use the advice well and you can see instant improvements on the pitch. I would imagine that the game will take the abilities of your backroom staff into account and that will affect how good or accurate their advice is.

Like I said, it's a new tool in the latest version of the game, but it seems to have had quite an impact on my teams fortunes. :D

Here here! The realism of FM10 is an excellent quality, there are however highly effective tactics and tactic packs available on this very website! the backroom advice feature is at most occasionally helpful and the new tactic creator sort of takes the uniqueness out of tactics unless your prepared to dive right in, switching to classic tactic creator is an advisable option for those happy with 09's tactic building, however the new tactic creator opens all manner of doors the budding benitez's out there!

Very true, unlike the others who have yet to realise this, i only come to this forum to find tactics as i have trouble figuring out how to link up play. Even with the so called "Best tactic" a team will still lose, and no one is expected to win every game, its impossible.

another reason why people try finding a good tactic because of variable inconsistency, like when a big team under performs, you know your tactics are screwed so you try to find an answer.

Definitely right. You will always have games where the odds are just against you and you can't score one of 20 clear cut chances while the opposition scores a screamer from 40 yards away. Just like it some times happens in real football.

A perfect example was in my FM09 second season where my team (Manchester United) lost to Swansea City 0-1, the striker had a 35 yard shot which went in, my team had 24shots,11 shots on target and they had that only 1 shot.

Yeah, totally agree with you.

Are you sure about it? Every game has weaknesses you can exploit. FM10 match engine isn't without flaws either ;).

I bet someone will make a tactic which can win 90% of games with conference players :P. Impossible? Just you wait. Same old was said before in CM days :D.

Well CM was back then, now game producers have more money and the latest technology to help them with. FM10 is really unique because now people know how to use the sliders to carve out box-to-box midfielders, wingers, inside forwards, poachers and etc. And almost every tactic has it's weakness yes but the AI always finds that same weakness against you and use it. If you do find a so called "Best" tactic ever, and you play Barcelona, united or chelsea and win them, i can firmly stand by and write down my entire life savings that out of 10 or 20 times at least 1 time the opponent will win despite you controlling possesion and having 20,30 shots on goal.

It is true that you have to tweak the tactic every so often otherwise you get a poor turn of form, hence why some tactics on this forum do not work for everyone, FM10 given advice by coaches now on comparison of the team you play next week which means it is a lot easier to adapt you tactic for specific teams

But i can guarantee that if you play a tactic with wingers and wingback, you will do much better against a team without any wingers and plays through the middle, this isnt a bug but more of common sense so that is why many people find a certain tactic and call it the best, because it works best on a certain tactical formation.

For me the whole situation of constantly having to chop and change your tactics to win games is entirely unrealistic , in real football teams dont change tactics and style of play every time they play a different team they rely on the fact of having a set way of playing to get the best out of there team.

It is not a constant chop and change of tactics, you should tweak it very few months though because otherwise the other teams find your weak points, it you change it a little bit, it gives your team a little extra bite

Yeah and now form plays a better part in fm10. as in fm 09 i could change the whole starting 11 all the time and win but now you can't do that.

i will bear that it mind mate just very frustrating when you cant string a decent run of form together i dont want to be "forced" into making changes to my team.

You don't have to change your entire tactic every time you play a different opponent. Slight changes like the depth of your defensive line or the amount of pressing you play will be enough.

I play the same formation through an entire season and only change my playing style a bit. For example against very defensive teams with only one strike I play with a high defensive line to pressure their midfield as fast as possible and avoid being overrun by their more offensive midfield players. If I play against a very good team with very fast strikers I usually try to defend deep and get my defensive midfielder to a more defending role then to a supporting role he would play against weaker teams.

Changing your formation all the time will more likely hurt the geling of your team then it will help you. And don't always listen to what your assistant says he is just giving you advise based on statistical data which doesn't take into account, that they may play totally different against you then they played against most other teams.

makes a lot of sense and i fully agree, though it took me countless defeats to understand lol
