Decided to give this game a shot after reading a few reviews, and so far Im loving it! Im only 11 games in but Ive already noticed an issue. Problem is I keep losing easy cheap goals. Currently Im playing 4-3-3:

Harper

R.Taylor --- Coloccinni --- Taylor --- Enrique

Routledge --- Smith --- Gutierrez

Ameobi --- Lovenkrands --- Best

Im currently sitting at 2nd on equal pints with Sheffield. And 2 points ahead of the nearest rivals.
Im wondering what tactics I should play? My strikers arn't as "prolific" as I'd like, Although Lovenkrands is sitting at 6 goals for the season
As well as good signings with a budget of 2.4 mil so far.
No signings have been made. Ive pretty much kept my default squad so far.
Oh yeah and I have beat the mackems in the cup ;)

Cheers - Mack

Signings - darron gibson, gabriel obertan, macheda usually do good jobs for me when I bring them in on loan. Otamendi's price differs on my games and I've brought him to the toon a season earlier than normal a couple of times. I don't usually buy many players with Newcastle when I manage them, the squad you've got should get you through the Championship and then when you go up buy a few.

What's your team settings ? i.e. Mentality and Fluidness

Playing a 4-3-3 may be a slight reason for this, having your midfield overloaded by other teams who then get to you back 4 quicker and put pressure on them causing mistake from your defence. Although Newcastle are the best team in the Championship 4-3-3 is an ambitious formation.

4-3-3 doesnt work with those players, as there is too much space between CM and the wings. Change to 4-5-1, with a DM and you will hardly ever concede. look at Hedwiges Maduro(Valencia) and Costin Lazar as DMs. I would play like this

Harper
Simpson Coloccini S. Taylor Enrique

Maduro/Lazar

Nolan---------------------Barton

Pancrate---------------------------------------------------Jonas
Carroll/Lovenkrands

Right thanks guys :) Um Im playing an attacking mentality with Lovenkrands as a target man, and Routledge as a playmaker. With Passing into space.

Ive found that a 4-2-2-2 or 4-1-3-2 works well with the default team, something like:

Harper
Simpson - Coloccini - S. Taylor - Jose Enrique

Barton ------- Smith
Pancrate --------------------------------------- Jonas
Ameobi ------- Carroll

Play Jonas as an inside forward and Pancrate as a winger, Carrol as a target man and Ameobi as a deep lying forward, and Smith as a ball winning CM, Barton as a deep lying playmaker. This, with controlling mentality, more pressing, man marking and more roaming has worked wonders for me. Switch in Lovenkrands (up front or for Jonas), R Taylor, Nolan and Routledge as needed. Also don't forget to try out Vukcic, Ranger and Kadar, all have proved to be good players with plenty of potential for me.

Well, I love that tactic Nubikal. But carrol and Ameobi cant finnish their dinner. I just cant score =(

Okay so heres what Im playing with:

Harper
R.Taylor-----S.Taylor----Coloccinni----Enrique
Barton----Smith
Pancrate----------------------Gutierrez
Carrol----Best/Lovenkrands

Strikers arnt having the best of times in front of goal though. Anybody know of any good cheap young strikers? It's a little to early for Vuckic.

Yeah Ameobi and Carroll can be frustrating, but Vuckic is a quality AM C, started using him towards the end of the season: 15(+7 sub) apps, 6 goals, 9 assists and 7.32 average rating

Thats not bad, especially for a youngster. Gutierrez though is on fire!

No young cheap strikers? I need a proliffic scorer.

I bought Mendicino from Lazio (loaned initially), he's not quite prolific but plays well for me, but then again Ameobi and Carroll can score in my game... Also bought Cristaldo on recommendations from people on here, but he's been injured too much to get a decent run in this season

What did you do as far as sales wise? Ive put Guthrie and **** up for sale. I need some money.

Signed Christaldo. Coming in the summer. How do I maximise my stats turnover in training? Ive tried to download dans training tactics but I cant find the necessary program to open it.

You put itno the schedules folder -

C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010\schedules

you may need to create the schedules file. Then in game, got to training, then click on the tab near the top, and import schedules.

I sold Best and **** straight away, canceled Fitz Hall's loan, but then Coloccini got coerced away for £5.5m in January and had to replace him. Also about to lose Tim Krul to Barca for £2.5m.

For the training you need to import the schedules from FM, if you go to training, then manage schedules, then import schedules it'll let you browse your computer, go to where you saved Dan's training tactics and select it.

Signed ***** Topp on a free and hes epic. 6 goals in 5 games. Thats not bad. Makes Ameobi look like a plank of wood.

Thats because Ameobi is a plank of wood! Carrol isnt on fire in front of goal but makes a good target man / assist forward for anyone with pace, i use Hooper, bought for under a million and ships them in with his pace.
I usually play with 3 forward but found since the last patch that this will get your tranced as Newci. I dropped one of my usual forwards and play him as a lib (sweeper) and i rarely conceed
-------------Foster
-------------Kadar
-------Taylor--- Permo
R.Taylor ------------- Enrique
------Yebda
-----------O'hara
----------------Vukic
---------Carrol --- Hooper

O'hara could be replaced by guthrie
yebda by any holding midfield
Carroll as advanced forward and in advanced option set him as a target man with ball to head, and make an excellent counter attack team
