After watching this year's World Cup, I got the urge to get back into football. I was on the books at Fulham until I had a horror car crash at the age of 18, which ended my career. I'm now 31 and I've got my coaching badges, but never really had the inspiration to get into coaching or even management. I'd helped out with my younger brother's Sunday league side, but that's all the experience I've got.

After a hectic Friday night, I stumbled out of bed on the Saturday morning with a weird sort of sensation fizzing around in my stomach, as though something great was going to happen. I went down to the kitchen, and Bruce, my flatmate, had prepared me a full English breakfast and a cup of tea. We sat down and got talking, Bruce is a first team coach with England, he'd mentioned that Capello is looking for 2 new managers, to manage the U21's and U19's. I listened to him babble on for about 40 minutes before I went to the gym.

It was about a month before the N-Power league's kicked off and I still wasn't a step closer to getting into football. I mentioned I was looking to get back into football but I didn't think of anything like managing England! I'll tell you what, I'll put in a good word for you with the manager and see what he says, I doubt anything will happen but you might get a job within the team, such as coaching?. I just smiled and nodded as the excitement started to take over my body.

Whilst at work the next day, Bruce called me;

Hello?

Josh finally! Capelo is welcoming ALL applicants for the job, as long as they've got their badges. The Manager's got your number and he'll contact you in the next few days about an interview, but make sure you don't miss the call, he's not one for slacking.

Thankyou, thankyou so much! I won't let you down.

The phone was cut off by my strict boss in the office. I was bored of the same thing, day in day out, I wanted a change, something different, something in football..

I carried on as usual for the next 3 days, until I had a call from 'Unknown', immediately, I accepted the call convincing myself it was Fabio, unfortunately it was just someone telling me I'd won a holiday to Hawaii. About 10 minutes later another unknown caller rang, I answered with a sloppy tone, as though I didn't want to talk.

Hello Mr Malin

Yeah, that's me, I'm not interested in no holiday to Hawaii though.

That's good news then, because I'm ringing to offer you an interview for the vacant England U21 post. Are you interested?

Oh sorry, and yes of course I'm interested. When will it be?

We've got a gap this afternoon, after Mr Coppell has cancelled, would that be okay?

Yes, that would be great, about 4?

See you then

The phone call ended, I'd got an interview with Fabio Capello later on today! I told my boss I had to leave for a family emergency and I had to leave quickly. I jumped into my car and rushed home, I put on a suit and tie and looked at the clock, 3:32, I had 28 minutes before it would start. I got in the car and put my foot down, to ensure I would make it on time. Luckily I knew London well, so I could take a few shortcuts, I turned up outside Wembley where Capello was stood beside his Jag, waiting for me, I approached him and offered my hand.

Hello, you must be Josh?

Yes, that's me

It's great to meet you, follow me.

I followed him up about 5 flights of stairs, until we got to his office. I sat down and he immediately asked me the first question. "Do you have your coaching badges sir"? I immediately replied yes, which was greeted with a beaming smile. He asked me what I'd like to do with the lads' and where I'd like to be in 5 years, every question was greeted with a smile. The interview finished and I went home, nervous as ever.

Would I get the job?

Update soon (K)

Mate, This Start Is World Class,
Best Of Luck,
Am Deffo Followin,
Finally, Some Way To Appreciate England :)

I'd took the next couple of days off work, waiting anxiously for the phone call. Would it be congratulations or commiserations?I was excited yet nervous, the interview seemed to go really well but I've got no experience. Would that count for anything? or is working with youth different from real management? All these questions were going round in my head and I didn't know the answer to any of them.

I'd been off work for 3 days now and still no phone call, and with Bruce away I had no way of finding out or contacting the manager. I had only 2 days before I went back to my office, unhappiness for me. I'd sat at home over and over planning out different teams on pieces of paper, in case I got the job. I knew Rodwell would be key, along with Carroll and Addison.

6 Days after the interview and still no phone call, I'd been back at work a day now, and I was starting to think he had forgotten about me. I'd sat in the office from 9 til 5, waiting for the phone call, checking my mobile every 2 minutes. I got in the car, knowing Bruce would be at home when I got there. The 25 minute journey home seemed to take forever. When I arrived home, there was a note on the door, Capello's name and number was on it, along with URGENT, CALL ASAP. I immediately picked up my mobile and dialled the number, not knowing what was coming next

Hello, is that you Josh?

Hello, Mr Capello, Bruce left me a note saying it's urgent?!

Ah yes, I would like to offer you the manager's post. If you're still interested that is?

Of course I am! Thank you so much Fabio!

I'll see you on the training ground tomorrow, 10:30 am sharp, don't be late.

He traditionally hung up without a goodbye, I stood there for a moment or 2 letting it sink in. Before heading off to bed, I'd have to get an early night, I'd be training with the likes of Cattermole and Muamba tomorrow!

I awoke early on the Monday morning. Around 6 o'clock, I got up and ready and head off to the Corner shop for the morning newspaper. It was me on the front page!

Update with matches in about 10 minutes <)

"Oh sorry Mr. Capello" lol, nice start mate, i'll try and follow.

while your talking to him tell Mr Capello he's a *** from me please, much appreciated

nice start

ENGLAND 1-1 UKRAINE
(European Under 21 Championship Qualifiers)

Hello and welcome to Ukraine, where England U21's kick their qualifying campaign off against a strong looking Ukraine side. Here is how the sides line up;

View attachment 104333

The only real surprise is that Victor Moses starts ahead of Cleverley and Stanislas. Welbeck and Carroll should do a job up top for England whilst Rodwell and Walcott will provide good experience.

The game kicked off with England dominating through out, with lots of shots and passing between them. Ukraine keeper had to be on top form as Andy Carroll shot from 25 yards which was well kept out low to his right. Danny Welbeck broke free when Ukraine defender Raktiskiy brought him down inside the box, whilst Rodwell converted coolly. England looked dominant through-out the second half but when Ukraine forward Garmash struck from 30 yards, Smithies fumbled into his own net.

ENGLAND 3-0 MALTA
(European Under 21 Championship Qualifiers)

After a dissapointing, yet unlucky start for new manager Josh Malin, he faced a slightly weaker Malta side in his second game in charge. Moses, Walcott and Welbeck were dropped with Sturridge, Cleverley and Stanislas in. Here is the line ups in full;

View attachment 104345

Smithie's keeps his place in goal after an error the game before. Tom Cleverely dribbled through the heart of the Malta defence almost straight from kick off, forcing a good save from the Malta keeper. Next it was Malta's turn to test the opposition with English based central midfielder James Paris shooting from 20 yards. Tom Cleverley then nodded in at the far post from a Sturridge cross making it 1-0. Chris Smalling was then fouled on the edge of the box and Junior Stanislas stepped up and converted the free kick on 30 minutes. Andy Carroll then rounded off the victory with a neat and cool finish past on rushing Maltese keeper' Magri. The second half began and England seemed to sit back in the second half, happy with the 3 goal margin.

ENGLAND 2-0 BELGIUM
(European Under 21 Qualifiers)

Theo Walcott starts upfront as he partner's an out of form Sturridge. Johnson, Loach and Richards all in as England look to try new players. Highly rated Belgian youngster Romelu Lukaku is who the media have touted as the dangerman to England.

View attachment 104392

England looked as though they had put Jack Rodwell on Lukaku as they looked to mark him out of the game, and that is certainly what they did. They dominated the first half from defence right through to the forward line and they got their reward when pacey forward Theo Walcott finished neatly into the bottom corner. Tom Cleverley was the next England player to test the Sunderland keeper Mingolet as he shot from 20 yards which was smartly tipped over the bar. Sturridge was replaced by Carroll and he and his strike partner linked up well when the Newcastle number 9 flicked on for an easy tap in for Walcott's second.

ENGLAND 2-0 BELARUS

England made just one change, Ryan Bertrand came in on the left hand side. Belarus adopted an usual 4-1-3-1-1 formation which could prove hard to break down.

View attachment 104394

It was a long range effort that gave England the lead after a pretty dull opening 20 minutes. Michael Johnson played a neat one-two before smashing into the top corner bagging his first international goal. Johnson was involved in the second goal aswell as he sliced open the Belarus defence for Theo Walcott to net, 3 in 2 for the Arsenal man. England held on nicely to ensure they stayed top of the group with old foe's Ukraine up next.

ENGLAND 4-0 UKRAINE
(European Championship U21 Qualifiers)

So once again another strike partner for Theo Walcott. This time Nathan Delfouneso, seems like a good talent who will score goals. Not keen on Andy Carroll to be fair, I don't know why but he just doesn't seem good enough. After only drawing 1-1 last time, England will look to get one better on foe's Ukraine.

View attachment 104427

The game kicked off with England once again in complete control. The first half ended 0-0 having England dominated through out. The second half kicked off and England continued how they finished. Walcott opened the scoring straight from kick off with half time substitute Andy Carroll opening up the Ukraine defence giving him an easy task. In the 72nd minute Andy Carroll got himself a goal when he nodded in from a Cleverely corner. Just a minute later Jack Wilshere got England's third with his first international goal. Victor Moses got in on the act on 77 minutes when he finished smartly making it 4-0.

ENGLAND 5-0 MALTA
(European Championships U21 Qualifiers)

Yet again another strike partner, this time Carroll was given his chance having got a goal in his last performance and 2 assists. Here's the line up's in full;

View attachment 104429

The game kicked off well for England as they took the lead within 3 minutes when Carroll nodded home a Gibbs cross. He doubled his and England's tally just 7 minutes later, once again with his head from a Gibbs cross. He completed his hat-trick on 29 minutes with an 18 yard strike into the bottom corner. Just 2 minutes on from that Carroll got his 4th and England's 4th with a wonderful lob over Maltese keeper. Walcott completed the rout on 53 minutes with a neat finish.

Malin rejects numerous club deals

Having enjoyed a good start with England U21's, a few clubs have been 'sniffing round' manager Josh Malin. Malaga and HSV are just 2 of the clubs who have offered Malin a deal to join their club as manager.

In an interview with BBCSport here is what he had to say: "I'm priveliged that they would offer me such a job, such a respondibility but the only job's I'm interested in taking are the senior England squad or Manchester United, anything else at the moment doesn't appeal to me.

ENGLAND 3-0 FRANCE

Josh Malin's first non competitive game in charge of England. Waghorn, Spence and Austin were all in line for their first caps Carroll will start up top alongside pacey forward Walcott with Cleverley and Gibbs occupying the wings. Delph gets his first start under Malin.

England started off well testing young keeper Areola with a long range effort.Theo Walcott was brought down by Sakho inside the area to give England a penalty, which Chris Smalling converted. Jack Rodwell doubled the lead with a dream of an effort from 25 yards. Rodwell completed the rout as he converted England's second penalty.
