One For The Lower Leagues

Over the past few days I have been using a modified version of Franky's MUFC'94 tactic to make it more adaptable to the lower leagues where there can be a lack of quality and little resources to improve the playing staff.

Initially, I was appointed manager of Walsall who were rock bottom of League 1 with 12 games to go, a squad lacking quality and morale at rock bottom. I managed to keep them up and this season with a couple of additions and better morale, we have made an unbeaten start to the season with the highlight being a League Cup win over Championship outfit Doncaster. (This has now been bettered, read below)

The tweaks I have made are subtle, changing corner and free kick strategies to try and poach goals where possible due to the lack of quality plus some other little tweaks which have given me the desired effect which was to dominate possession and increase the goals per chances ratio.

Any comments would be appreciated as well as any information from people who try it.


*It may also be worth now noting that I have just picked up a fantastic result in the next round of the League Cup. It was helped by the fact that they lost a man with 16 minutes to go but we had already led 2-1 at half time. I have also included the match stats as that hopefully shows what I am trying to achieve by bringing down the goals to chances ratio.

I am quite happy with the way this tactic has worked for me, it has led to me being offered the job as Cardiff City manager. They lie in 11th, 5 points behind the playoffs with 6 games to play. Possible? Hopefully so.

Started another new game using this tactic, this time as Darlington. After messing around with the tactic slightly, I decided to leave it how it is with the only exception being the left cental midfielder who now pushes forward. After a few early defeats due to tinkering, I am now settled with the tactic and am currently unbeaten in 10 games with another excellent cup result.

Glad to hear that. You may notice severe disciplinary problems with it, the individual instructions are still set to hard tackling and when I have tried to change it the team have gone a bit soft. I think I have sorted it out now though, a bit more testing and then I will post it here.

Still have some problems( as always) with away games. I win easily at home but when we play away have some issues. Any suggestion?

Try the left central midfielder going forward and pick a midfielder for that position with good long shots and even good finishing if possible. I am using Jason Kennedy who is a MC/ST so it works well for him, he tends to grab a goal or two away from home on a smash and grab raid. This will be in the update I post later.

To be honest, I wouldn't be prepared to type up the info simply because it would take too long in comparison to the fact that downloading a tactic and putting it in game is very simple.

There are plenty of guides on this site to do it and it is simply a case of downloading the tactic directly to or placing it in documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009/tactics. Once it is in there, in game, go to tactics, click on tactics at the top right, scroll down to archived tactics and it should be there. Simples.

As for working with Bersica, no reason why not although you never know unless you try.

Imo good tactic but i started new game with Walsall and tried it. Not bad i had like 5 friendly's . 2 difficult ones Aston villa and Watford . Draw vs Aston
and 4-2 won vs watford but the league started and im getting hammered the tactic dont works anymore. I waited like 10 matches so my players can get used to the tactic but it didnt. Im 14th so what can i do about it?
