Currently managing Doncaster Rovers...signed some quality strikers for the championship but 9 times out of 10 in a one on one situation they wont score and goals come from quite random situations. I really don't get it, frustrates me so much.
Is this something wrong or are my strikers just basically not good enough..?

Combination of things. The match engine generates too many one on ones in order to create 'chances'. One on ones are statistically in favour of the goalkeeper. So to keep things within reason, you see too many one in ones within the game but score about the right amount. Which is frustrating if you don't know that you shouldn't be having that many to start with and they're only happening because there's a slight bug with the long ball over the top being too effective and that they are representing 'chances' which may or may not be realistic goal scoring ones (check your clear cut chances - if you have too few or lots of them and are not scoring, that's when you should start looking at what your strikers are up to).

Try giving PPMs to your players which will help them in the situation (eg lob keeper, round the keeper) if they suit the player's skills. Although this will just improve your statistical odds slightly and not result in you scoring every opportunity.

thanks a lot pal...i'll start giving them PPM's then and see if it changes owt...was gettin so frustrated...i have 4 decent strikers and it just annoyed me!
thanks again!

Always had a soft spot for Doncaster. Was filmed in the crowd for ID at their old ground :D

Which PPMs for which skills? I would think composure for 'round the keeper' for example, but what for lobbing?

Level appropriate skills (or better) (ie 16 for Premiership, -1.5 for every league below so 14 for championship, 13 for League 1 etc) helps.

Likes to round keeper - I'm having success with players who have technique, dribbling, pace and acceleration. Decisions I'm not sure about.

(Places shots seems to help out in combination with round keeper.)

Lobs keeper - I'm having success with players who have technique, finishing, composure and first touch. Decisions I'm not sure about.

i prefer beat the offside trap with placed shots, seems to get more chances and therefore ultimately score more goals, ive found rounding the keeper work better with player with low composure for some reason.

The more I think of it the more I think I must be dumb for overlooking it and not trying it out - the beat the offside trap ppm would be hugely beneficial under 9.2. Thanks boozemaster :)

So in you play in conference south. The approiate skill would be 7???
And i always thought that composure was needed for rounding keepers

Think it's 8 isn't it mate? That's roughly right, because I've played a striker with 11 finishing and he was a monster at that level.

I've not noticed composure being important. But if you find it helps... It's all conjecture really based on experience with PPMs. I'm sure I'm miles out with my observations but until SI release further details, it's a bit difficult to be exact :(

forgot to thank you about this mate...2 seasons later and Hal Robson-Kanu bagged me 31 & 32 league goals!
