Opposition instructions, are they worth it?

interesting one their, i found it depends on the tactic, the more free and expressive you allow your team to be the less you should use the OI , however it also depends on your team if your playing a better team OI's can help, unfortuanatly I cant seem to either create or find a tactic similar to the way the best team in the world play at the moment just take the barcelona principal of closing down your opponents with great speed and then playing unbelievable football, as a fellow gooner i wish i could recreate that tactic on here, but its way to complicated for me.

I just ask my assistant to do it, then manually do everything I can against players I know are a big threat

Turn on Closing Down and Push Onto Weaker for all opposition players. I only use Hard Tackling on their main danger men.

I tested this out one time cause i get the impression it doesnt work i saved the game and played it using the oi i lost the game something like 4 - 1 when i played without it i won something like 3 - 0 i think its only used for little teams against man utd or what not but every single time i use instructions i lose the game to me it stops ur team expressing thereselfs and they are to worried about the threat from the other team i never ever ever do these and i go on unbelievable unbeaten runs maybe i just dont do them properly but ethier way me using the Tf or letting the assistant does not work.

And Livipunk why do you use hard tackling on big players you do understand that hard doesnt mean how hard he tackles let me explain
Easy normal Hard , cant remember the % values but hard tackling means he goes for it if there is like 25 % , chance of getting the ball easy 75% , normal 50%

Second half of that post was patronizing as ****...:S

Yes, I do understand that - your "explanation" actually made it harder to understand, btw ;) - and I use it on the dangermen because they pose the most threat and, generally, it is more likely to get that 25% chance of not getting the ball.

Wasn't patronizing anyone was more about helping you understand something next time I wont.
My point was if your player goes for a 25% chance tackle against a skilled player unless u have the top defenders on the game more likely or not you wont get the ball i set my 2 centre backs to easy tackling to stop them lunging in and for me it seems to work a treat im doing a derby county game right now 18 games in top of the championship knocked pompy out the cup then arsenal done me 3 - 0 next round.
Didn't mean to patronize anyone i think your over analyzing it m8.

Strikers and Wingers - Tight Marking,Closing Down,Hard Tackling and Push on Weaker Foot.
Central Midfielders - Closing Down,Hard Tackling and Push on Weaker Foot.

I tend to let my Assistant deal with it when you can click the assistant button, sometimes you cant click it,but everytime i goto tactics to say make a subor change a player role i usually just do the oppo instructions and just click assistant, if it doesntlet me change anything i dont worry to much dont really see point in them, only ever do it myself if im setting it to snap a certain player i dont like (6)

Chris - I usually play as Inter ( I find winning the premiership as The Mighty Reds a totally unrealistic experience ), & I've noticed the Hard Tackling option seems to work on known ' sick-note ' players.
eg; When I play Roma & give Totti ' the treatment ' - he invariably picks up an injury or is substituted for being ineffectual.
I've experimented by playing games without following the assistants' advice & reloading & replaying the match WITH advice - results do seem to favour the latter.
Now I just give ' Closing Down ' & ' Weaker Foot ' instructions automatically on ALL Midfield players ( including wingers ) & ' Weaker foot ' on forwards. If the assistants advise ' Hard Tackling ' on anyone, I add those instructions too. It does seem logical to do so.

PS: All people who are born in Liverpool are Liverpudlians, so don't be too hard on yourself there

i listen to what my assistant manager says and i apply who he says needs to be tackled hard, closed down etc!

every game i do this, and it has been a very successful tactic and approach to this as well as applying wolfsongs teamtalk guide!

Yeah, Wolfsong is cool - I never would have come up with some of his suggestions, but they certainly seem to get the job done, having used them for a while now

Played the last few games as I started out initially - manually set the things for known troublemakers and whatever the assistant mentions in his report, been doing better in these games

No, never anymore. I used to but saw a thread a month or two back and the resounding consensus was not to use OI so I stopped and went on a fantastic unbeaten run which lead to me winning the league. With my experience of FM I've found that motivation is the only thing you need to get spot on, you can have the best tactics in the world but if your players don't wanna play well they won't play well.
