Hi all,

I'm going to be sharing my Football Manager 2018 story here over the next few weeks. The plan is to share shortened versions of my full posts that you can read on my website if you wish.

I've taken over Ostersunds FK after finding them when writing a 'Who to Manage on FM18' guide. They really stood out as an interesting project, they won the Swedish Cup in 2017 which meant that they would be entered into the Europa League in my first season.

My manager will be Oscar Friberg, an ex-Swedish international footballer who is joining Ostersund as a replacement for legend Graham Potter. It will be interesting to see how he performs in his first managerial role.

You can read the full version of this post through the link below:

I'll be updating this thread regularly, but if you can't wait for the next post, the series is already complete on my site

Just read through some of your stuff on your website, really impressive stuff. Really easy to read, formatting is great and it's just overall really enjoyable :) can only hope to have as successful a career in my Saint-Étienne story as you've had in this one!

I'm about halfway through your story so far, very good read and easy to follow. Out of curiosity, what leagues and database did you load up ie large/advanced etc?

Ostersunds FK: An FM18 Story - Building a Swedish Legacy | Part Two

Part 2

Oscar Friberg joined Ostersund mid-season after Graham Potter's departure. He came in with Ostersund having already played 13 games of the Swedish league season and quickly set about shaping his new side in the mould of his desires.

Thanks to the 2017 Swedish Cup win, Ostersund were entered into the Europa League qualifying rounds. We beat Odd before losing to a strong Marseilles.

In the league, we performed above expectations to finish in 5th place.

Ostersunds FK | Season Two Review

On my site I have uploaded 4 posts about our second season in charge of Ostersund. Here, I will just outline how our season has gone.

Our season started very well, though as you can see we started slowly by going winless in our first four games. We bounced back and won 7 of the next ten matches, meaning we were 4th at the halfway point of the season.

We continued our good form in the second half of the year and we only lost 3 games as we finished the season with a flourish. This good form saw us finish in an incredible second place! Malmo won the league ahead of us with Norrkoping coming 3rd. Finishing second is a massive achievement for us so early on in our career in Sweden.

For a large part of the second half of the season we were in fact in 1st position, but the 1-0 defeat to Malmo secured their title ahead of us.

A review of our Ostersund squad: https://vivalavidafm.com/2017/11/27/oscar-friberg-4-squad-review/

I'm playing a 4-3-3 formation that, after researching it a little for my tactical post, I labelled as our Dutch 4-3-3. This is one of our most viewed pieces from the Ostersund series on my site and it was one of my favourites to write! https://vivalavidafm.com/2017/12/01/oscar-friberg-5-tactical-review/

Finally from season two I wrote about my youth training and development: https://vivalavidafm.com/2017/12/05/oscar-friberg-6-youth-training-and-development/

Ostersunds FK | Season Three Review

Season three began with the plan to begin to move out some of the Ostersund players from 2017 and replace them with younger and more talented prospects.

Jamie Hopcutt, Saman Ghoddos and Ken Sema, three key members of the Ostersund first team over the past few seasons, all left the club in 2019. Sema was the only one of the trio who I reluctantly sold, but Malmo came in with a great offer of £3.3M.

On the ins we signed Angel Gomes on loan from Manchester United. He will directly replace Ken Sema out on the right wing.

Thanks to our 2nd place finish in the league last season, we were entered into the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League. Here we beat Derry City but then lost to Altach in the 2nd round.

In the league we backed up our 2nd place finish with a 4th place finish, securing continental football again for next season.

A decent third season with Ostersund and it does feel like we are progressing well. To read about this season in more detail, feel free to visit the link below.
