Hi there. I have never done a story of a previous game so please bare that in mind. My grammar, spelling and punctuality is dreadful so i do apologize in advance.
About me: I've played football manager since the day the game came out and even before that, playing cm98. I have followed the online scene for sometime and have picked up a lot of advice and information through you guys so I guess it's only polite to return this found knowledge by attempting to entertain you guys with my Inter save. I have never managed an Italian team before and opted for Inter.
Ok After scouting around my team, I decided i didn't need much cover and for the tactic I wanted to attempt with Inter I would require a DMC, AMC, GK and any youth talent I could pick up on the way.
So trying to keep disturbing my team to a minimal i was reluctant to sell any players.
I felt I needed to toughing up the competition for my 2 DMC so i splashed the cash early for sandro, In AMC i had enough cover so Macro Verratti joined for small 1m. I also picked up Jurgen Macho as freebie as i passed 3 of my GKs off and needed a bit cover for Julio Cesar and decided not treat to team 2 a meal this weekend and bought Andrea Stefani for a silly £180,000.
GK:
Jurgen Macho
Andrea Stefani
Transfers IN/OUT 09/10
I continued to scout players but I was given a 12ml budget so i blew that out the water with 1 buy but I'm very happy with the way my team looks and feels.
Tactics:
I wanted to try a more of defensive approach to my inter team with an attacking twist. 4-2-3-1 was my preferred tactic to kick start the season. This also gave sandro a lot of time to settle into the team.
Pre-Season: Ok I gave my assistant manager the opportunity to impress me throughout pre-season while I sorted some issues out around the club and take a longer look into my puppies in the reserves and u20's
Our next game and I guess my first game of the season was the Italian Super Cup against Lazio. As I didn't get a chance to run my team through pre season, something I hope I don't live to regret. I was feeling a bit nervous. Some of the team members where unsure as to why I was appointed and to right. I'm unknown non Italian speaking Brith abroad I'm sure my presence was going down a right treat. And I made sure it did.
Milito had a great pre-season but I felt eto was our strongest striker so I gave him chance to show me why I shouldn't be using Milito.
I still didn't think sandro had settled enough so I started with Motta & Cambiasso in DMC
So I gave my team a good word or two (thats all i could say in Italian) these words consisted of win, f*cking, goal and movement. And it managed to work. We was 1-0 within side 7mintues thanks to a Snejider. Snejider got to the ball first headed it back to Chivu who advanced with the ball, played a 1-2 with Cambiasso and Pandev (magical) seeks out, and finds Snejider who skips past a diving Lichtsteiner to blast it into the back of the net from 25m out. 1-0 Inter
4 minutes later and the man who I feel is going to be the man of season steps up and slots our 2nd. Eto smashes a header into the back of the net from a teasing corner from Snejider. 2-0
The game had settled down until Pandev found Eto with a world class through ball allowing Eto time for a coffee before slotting home hes 2nd and our 3rd. 3-0
The referee blew for half time but I was already in the dressing room preparing for my team to return and as i thought they would, they turned up thinking they had won this game. The players soon noticed my approach to such games and with an short out burst the players were back to the real world with still 45minutes on the clock. I told the players to keep it tight, move to ball around and enjoy the rest of the game.
The second half started and we played well creating a few chances but couldn't convert them. I thought it would be wise to bring on some fresh legs so with the additions of sandro santon and milito on 72 minutes I thought we could sneak another goal but unfortunately it wasn't to be. 3-0 first half thrashing decided the fate of the game today.
We had one pre-season game left that I kept faith in my assistant to take control off. This game ended in a bore draw against Girona.
August was always going to be a busy month for us with transfer rumors floating around, the start of the season and obviously the language barrier.
Fixtures for the rest of the month looked like the following:
Atalanta H
Sampdoria A
Our first game of the season H against Atalanta a reverently easy opposition and being at H I requested that out team set out to tell everyone who we are and what we are about this season and doing so in fashion we destroyed Atalanta 4-0. We went up 2-0 within the first 10 minutes thanks to goals from Eto and Balotelli. The seconded half started slowly as it did against Lazio so I decided to shake things up and with introduction of sandro at half time and Milito and Quaresma on 60th gave us that 2nd front. It paid off with Milito finding Qauresma with a magical pass leaving Qauresma with a one and one and keeping hes cool slotted home. Sandro wrapped up the game with a power header into the roof of the net on the 84th minute.
Having such a great start to the season I told my players to keep the form going and that this was our season for the league and champions league. So with fashion and ecstatic we started our away game against Sampdoria in style but failed to find the net. The 2nd half started slowly until the 53rd minute where Macro Rossi was removed from the pitch with a dreadful tackle. I changed my approach to the game mixed it up and requested the team to push up the field to get a goal. It wasn't to be maybe our away games tactics might need some work on. I will continue to monitor our away games and see if I need to change anything around.
Results up to August.
The players and myself have had 16 days to prepare for September. So I allowed each player two days off to spend with their family's but only if they were committed to 8am starts for the following week. They accepted something I wish I never suggested being a non morning person
. My Italian was improving by the day and players respected me for that. It also seemed to have boosted confidence around the club. September was the start of our champions league and some key games in Serie A.
September looked like the following:
H Roma
A Panathinaikos CL
A Chievo
A Fiorentina
H At Madrid CL
Our first game of the month was at home against Roma. I've always seen Roma as a good team so this game was going to be a challenge for my team. Starting with a win was vital this month so I was over the moon when Eto opened to game up on the 22nd minute with a clever placed goal. A little time had gone and Roma were back on level terms on the 25th minute. I was fuming and the team knew it. At half time I said my part and sent them back out. With no1 being creative on the pitch I switched Eto for Milito and Sneijder for Qauresma and it worked. Milito smashed a low hit into the bottom corner on the 85min and Balotelli scored a free kick from just outside the box on 71st minute. The final score 3-1 to Inter
Our first game of the CL was against Panathinaikos and after a long travel and our away form to date I didn't have great hopes on this game. And I turned out to be right. The game was a bore draw but was happy to gain a point to set us on the right way in CL.
I wanted the team to bounce back fast and with a game against Chievo a few days later I felt this was a game we should be winning easy. Being away from home we was fighting two battles. We was losing the league to Fiorentina who we have to play in the next few weeks and our away form. Anyway the game went ok I guess. It was yet again another draw but we both managed a goal each. Ours came in the 92nd minute but hey all goals count!
One of the biggest games of the month was around the corner against Fiorentina. Fiorentina had taken a slight lead at the top of the table so a win here would put me a few points in front a lose and the league was looking out off our hands already!
Yet again another away game I was tempted to change the formation completely for this must win game but I had faith, faith in my tactics and faith in my players. The match started bright with both teams creating early chances but it was Fiorentina to step up the game and Mutu ( who was clearly coked out hes face ) ripped out defense apart in the 11th minute. We had our chances but nothing special until 34minute we was rewarded a penalty Thiago Motto was the man to step up to put us on level terms and he..........failed, yes he missed. I was raging going in at HT 0-1 down I wasn't impressed and the players knew it. I demanded the game to be stepped up. The players seemed shocked and just went about their game for the next 45minutes not making any mistakes nor chances. The final score was Fiorentina 1- 0 Inter.
Our last game of the month was luckily at H but unfortunately it wasn't going to be an easy game. We had to play At Madrid who seem to be doing well this season and currently sitting nicely on top of the LIGA.
I was only going to make the one change to this game and that was to introduction of sandro to the starting lineup to company Motta.
The game started with fashion as most expected but no1 really stood out to the crowd until sandro was allowed to continue his run and play a superb ball for Eto who had looked to beat the offside trap and taps in for a 1-0 lead on the 34th minute. For the next ten minutes At Madrid where the better team, creating chances and I was pleased and welcomed HT.
I reminded the players of the crowd outside I also reminded the players to forget whats going on in the league, this is now and we needed another goal.
Returning to the field It felt like a right buzz around the pitch and you can see it in the players they wanted another goal and within 20mintues eto answered to my request by making space magically in the area and smashing one pass asenjo. 2-0 inter. The game seemed to have died right down and people where making their way for the exits until Macro Verratti scored hes first goal for Inter and a great one at that. 3-0 Inter
