I'm currently looking for a young keeper to bring up through the reserves and hopefully be my No.1 in a few years. I've noticed that a lot of the young players have speed ratings of 10 or less. I don't think pace is the most important attribute for keepers, but it must help for rushing out and getting around the box etc. Will their speed improve as they get older?

they should do my friend but this is down to training etc for example in pre season set your young keepers aerobic training fairly high along with tactical training thus they should improve on their speed and tactical reading of the game, charging out of your box ain't always about speed, for example look at valdes at barca hes not eh quickest at all but he reads the game so well in terms of when and when not to com eout of his box.

yes it will mate, you will have to put them on a speed training schedule and specialization on pace. it depends what type of keeper you are looking for though... pace does not matter to me at all really, reflexes, communication, positioning, jumping, command of area, concentration, handling and 1v1 are more important to me!

take a look at these (I am sure you may have already)

Fernando Muslera - Lazio

Acceleration would be more important than pace for keepers anyway.

Yeah I have a pre-season training routine for strength, speed and tactics. Would I also have to put them on a individual routine for pace?

agreed Fossie, when I refer to pace normally I actually mean both pace and acceleration though, but for what dickybran is wanting, acceleration and rushing out stats would be what he is looking for... :) pace (pace) is not that essential for keepers as Fossie mentioned :)

you will have to put them on a speed training schedule and specialization on pace
