Piacenza Calcio
is a football club based in Piacenza, Italy. The club was formed in 1919 and currently plays in Italian Serie B, where they have been since 2003.

The club won the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1986. The highest they have ever finished in their home league is 12th in Serie A, which they have achieved twice in 1997/1998 and 2001/2002. They spent much of their history in the lower divisions, suffering relegation in four of their first six Serie B seasons. They first reaching Serie A in the early nineties, and have been relegated from the division three times.
Piacenza has been known in the past for its strong reluctance to use foreign players, using a team made up exclusively of Italians for most of its Serie A seasons; at present however there are some foreign players, generally European.

Promotion in 1991 saw a rise in the side's fortunes under coach Gigi Cagni with the club promoted to Serie A for the first time in 1993.
The 1993 side contained players such as midfielder Daniele Moretti, winger Francesco TurriniGiampietro Piovani. They spent 1993-94 holding their own in mid-table and were on the fringes of a place in the UEFA Cup, but were unfortunate to be relegated on the final day. The club wisely chose to retain Cagni and most of his squad, and they would achieve promotion as Serie B champions in 1995. and forward

The following five years saw the club win many supporters with its all-Italian lineup and successful battles against relegation. In 1997 the club acquired legendary hard man defender Pietro Vierchowod. Despite his advancing years, Vierchowod proved an outstanding purchase, more than holding his own in defence and even scoring decisive goals in the relegation battle.

Relegation in 2000 was followed by an instant return to Serie A for two years with outstanding form shown by players like midfielder Enzo Maresca. The club has since remained in Serie B without threatening to mount a promotion challenge. On the final day of the 2006-07 Serie B season, the team needed a victory to force a Serie B promotion playoff, but were held to a draw, and thus the top 3 gained automatic promotion.

No non European players are allowed to be brought to the club each season!

Present:

Piacenza today announce the employment of a young semi professional ex english footballer, Neil Hart who played for Sheffield Utd and Celtic in his fairly short footballing career.

He has had previous managerial experience being on the coaching staff at Newcastle United from 2005-2006 while taking up an assistant managers position with the Canary's at Carrow Road from 2007-2009.

in a press conference a couple of days after his appointment at Piace he took the time to meet with the media for the 1st time:

"Mr Hart, what is your vision for Piace going forward?"

"Good day to everyone, thank you for taking the time to attend the conference here with me today, my apologies for the lateness of calling it, i really wanted to get into this club and get going from the ground up, i have spent alot of time meeting with all the staff and players here on a personal note"

"We at Piace have a 2 year game plan, i want to gain Promotion to the Serie A come end of the season as well as at the end of year two, finishing somewhere mid table, that is what myself and Fabrizio Garilli discussed prior to my contract"

"I would like to thank everyone at the club for giving me this oppurtunity to take Piacenza to another level, a more successful era, the most successful era in our history"

"Please excuse me as i need to attend to my players and staff as we have alot of work to do here and i would like to get going as soon as possible..." thank you!

Woo, I've been waiting for you to do a story for ages :D Good luck buddy.

Pre seaon transfer updates:

with the squad looking a bit tired and unconvining in a number of departments Neil Hart was looking more towards the youth to help build the team for the future as well as have enough experience to cope with mental and physical toughness of the league.

Neil Hart definately caught the attention of some big Serie A sides with the capture of Italy's prodigal youngster, Marco Verratti with a 350k deal.
Verratti said initially that he did not want to move from his beloved Pescara but Neil Hart wasted no time in offering him a deal he could not refuse: Verratti said:

"I could not turn down an offer like that, Mr Hart offered me a substantial package and promised me that together, we can take this club to the next level and I hope we can, i know we can, there is a great system Mr Hart has put in place already and we can only grow from now"

In dire need of a quality striker at Piacenza, Neil Hart spent alot of time scourering the transfer lists that clubs had sent to him and sending some of his scouts to pre-seasons games and tournaments eventually coming to a decision to bring in
Jerome Lafourcade a 26 year old Frenchman from the club ESTAC playing previously at Montpellier for a fee of around 150k.

Some other positions were filled and the squad strengthened mainly through free transfers however Neil Hart is not finished in the transfer market as of yet, he is beleived to be ligning up a bid of about 655k for Romanian Goalkeeping sensation Silviu Lung Jr... as well as Antunes, the Portugues International left back from Roma...

Breaking News, Neil Hart signs Silviu Lung Jr!

Neil Hart is looking to offload a couple of his fringe players at Piace to free up some of the overspent wage bugdet set out at the begining of the season to remain in complete financial control throughout the season.

Pre season report:

with a good start to the pre-season besides the Welhain and Pergrocema results, i was very pleased with my new signing, the veteran striker, Christian Vieri who was picked up on a free at the begining of the season, playing 5 games scoring 3 goals and adding 4 assists with a sub appeance as well as a man of the match!

we played good flowing football at times but our fitness got the better of us at times, especially the two defeats we encountered, they were at the time alot fitter than us. with that in mind and exerienced, we have spent most of our time getting our players as fit as possible come the start of the season with as little injuries too.

The League Season gets underway...

Piacenza look to get there season underway to the best possible start with a TIM Cup trip to Taranto at home...
With the 1st game of the season the players and manager were all a little anxcious and nervous about the game ahead...

Piacenza P1- 1 Taranto

Piace started the game really well with most of the possesion playing some good containing, controlled football.
Prodigy Verratti started the game and repayed his managers faith with a 25 yard screamer in the 30th minute fizzing the ball low and hard to the bottom left of the goals, keeper standing no chance.

Taranto pulled one back in the 83rd minute which left manager Neil Hart quite animated in the dug out.
Having to go to extra time was not on the pre game agenda for Hart's men as they are one of the unfittest teams in the league and anything over the allotted time would be detrimental to the team...

having played extra time the match went to penalties where it was 1 for 1 until Mezavilla missed his spotkick leaving Prodigy, Marco Verratti to take the kick to seal victory and he put it away without a glimpse of fear and also becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in Piace's history.

Piace get a very tough draw in the TIM Cup as they are pitted agianst Serie A team, Sampdoria.

Sampdoria P0-0 Piacenza

(A very tough draw for the 2nd game of the season, but Hart's men showed they were no pushovers at Luigi Ferraris holding the hosts to 0-0 the entire game only losing 6-5 on penalties, Verratti unfortunately not winning this one for Piace.)

Piacenza 0-0 Brescia

(With Brescia firm favourites for the clash at Leonardo Garrilli Piace stuck to their game plan extremely well, carving out numerous chances but unable to capatalize on any of them with Lafourcade not playing at his best for most of the match, Hart probably would have preferred to have started Verteran Vieri instead, but decided he needed a more versatile striker upfront, which in the end, did not pay off for him)

Good luck mate, it'll be interesting to see where you take them, I'm sure you can better 12th in Serie A

with a somewhat tedious start to the season, Piace are the talking point of Italy at the moment, notching up win after win, home and away, playing some attractive, pinpoint attacking football...

with only 3 losses in 11 games, Piace find themselves somewhere where they never expected to be at the begining of the game, 2nd in Serie Bi
.

Piacenza 0-1 Crotone

(a somewhat disgraceful performance from Piace, they barely got going throughout the match, gave away possession as if they were working at a soup kitchen, dismal display for Hart's men conceding the decisive goal late in the second half)

Empoli 1-3 Piacenza

(A lovely performance from Hart's men as they put Empoli to the sword at Stadio Carlo Castellani with a dominant display of football.
going down 1-0 in the 1st 13 minutes of the game, Hart's men showed their determination and dominated the rest of the game with Verteran Striker Vieri scoring a brace and Grenier, on loan from Lyon scoring the the 3rd)

Padova 1-1 Picenza

(An away tie was always going to be tough against Padova who were were on a good run of form at home in Serie B. Vieri taking the lead in the 35th minute and Hart's men conceding the equalizer in the 75th minute)

Picenza 3-1 Cittadella

(Piacenza showed their home fans that they are on a serious mission this season, Jerome Lafourcade scrored a sensational hat-trick for his team with Piace having the lions share of possession and chances, Hart will most definately be impressed with the performance his men put in today)

Mantova 3-1 Piacenza

(Hart's men went to Mantova after a dominant win at home against Cittadella expecting to give Mantova, who are on a decent run of form a footballing lesson, unfortunately Hart's men seemed to have underestimated the home team going down 3-0 with Lafourcade pulling 1 back near the end, a dissapointing outing to say the least)

Piacenza 1-0 Vicenza

(Hart's men knew this was not going to be an easy game, even though at home, but they did not dissapoint the fans and pundits alike, Lefourcade in deadly in recent weeks scored an absolute screamer from 25 yards. Hart's men did well for the remainder of the game to shut up shop and play possession football to see out the victory)

Sassuolo 1-3 Piacenza

(Hart's men started the game off well with Naingollan cutting inside from the wing and scoring a well placed shot in the bottom left hand corner of the net. The inform Lafourcade scored the second too with a well placed shot, Zampagna gave the home team a glimmer of hope scoring in the 77th minute of the game, but Simon Feindouno sealed the victory coming off the bench and completing the scoring with a good individual effort. Hart's men showing they mean business this season)

Lecce 2-1 Piacenza

(Hart's men were never really in contention to win this game, Lecce played very good keep ball football which did not allow Piace to get involved in the game, an early goal for the home team was enough to dampen Hart's men and while Vieri, back from injury scored a concilation goal in the 77th minute)

Piacenza 3-2 Frosinone

(Hart's men came back strong from the defeat at the hands of Lecce last weekend and showed their class with Naingollan scoring a peach of a goal and putting away a penalty before second half. Frosinone came back with a goal midway through the second half only for Prodigy, Verratti to score a 30 yard free kick that was placed perfectly in the bottom corner, Frosinone scored a concilation goal in the 90th minute to give Hart's men a little scare, but it was not enough, a good win for Hart's men)

Piacenza 5-3 Torino

(With hot favourites Torino coming to Leonardo Garilli, pundits and fans alike did not think that Hart's men would stand that much of a chance from the league leaders, however on form from a good win the week before Hart's men put Torino to test with two early goals. Di Michele scored Torino's 1st minutes later only to have Piace reply with another 2 goals Verratti and Vieri. Di Michele scored his second midway through the second half with Gasborroni making it a tight affair for the remainder fo the contest only for Moscardelli to seal an emphatic home victory agianst Torino who are firm favourites for Promotion)

Reggina 1-3 Piacenza

(Once again Hart's men were the underdogs in this top 4 clash at the top of the Serie B table this weekend. Graffiedi getting the game off to a flyer with a goal in the 5th minute only to go on and dominate the remainder of the 1st half with goals from Feidouno and a cracker of a penalty from Verratti smashing it into the top left hand corner. Favourites Reggina pulled a goal back on the 75th minute through a penalty from Brienza, nothing more than a concilation goal to a game that Hart's men completely dominated from start to finish)

Piacenza 1-1 AlbinoLeffe

(Nothing could seperate these sides at Leonardo Garilli as the home team got off to a fantastic start with Vieri scoring a well placed shot. The visitors equalized in the 32nd minute through Ruopolo. The remainder of the game was an evenly fought contest with Rincon seeing red in the 65th minute, Hart's men did well to not concede the winning goal until the final whistle)
