A question on pitch sizes and tactics. I've read somewhere that it might be a good idea to play a narrow tactic on a wide pitch with closing down opponents who play on the sides. However I have mixed results doing this and also my pitch is rather long, so I like to play direct. But most narrow tactics seem to require short passing. Short pitches seem to need wide tactics.
My question is do you need to adjust your formation to fit the pitch or do you change it through team and player instructions? For instance I mostly play 4-4-2, which seems to me is a rather wide formation in contrast to for example 4-1-2-1-2. However playing 4-1-2-1-2 nearly cost me a game against Stoke, while I kept Man U at a draw with 4-4-2 (my pitch is long and wide) and I kicked Arsenal out of the FA-cup playing 4-1-3-2 (attacking no less). So I'm rather at a loss on what tactic to use on what kind of pitch (short/wide, short/narrow, long/wide, long/narrow).
Any insight would be much appreciated. I have a soon to be top team, ranking third in the EPL. I rather not say which team I play, but I think you can guess.
