As the title says, this is about PPMs of Places Shots vs Shoots with power. I have 2 players Florinel Coman (who I retrained to play AML as IF) and Moussa Dembélé who plays the striker. I know places shots is usually a good PPM for strikers and shoots with power for midfielders and even IF who have good long shots stats.

The issue is that while Florinel Coman can learn places shots and his stats are good for the PPM in the past FMs I have had players ruined because of the places shot PPM. I could also try and teach him shoots with power but his long shots is 12 and his strength 14, both of which could be trained and improved, but that would take time.

Moussa Dembélé on the other hand has very similar stats which will more then likely improve further but he also has high strength, 16 and long shots of 13, which I am not too worried about because he mostly gets scoring chances inside the box. But I am worried about him missing chances because he is shooting with power and being less accurate. I could also not train any of the 2 PPMs on him.

Here are their stats, and any advice on what I should do would be appreciated. Also are there any additionally PPMs they might benefit from or that I might need to remove. Thnx in advance.

good composure (13+) = places shots
low composure= shoots with power

My general rule.

In FM16 and 17 I had the clear feeling that 'Shoots with power' was the most effective finishing move. In 18, I'm not sure... One thing I do, and might sound quite stupid, is try to see what type of goals a striker usually scores without having a specific PPM. So if I see that he looks more comfortable placing shots that's how I train him, if he seems to have more success when blasting the ball then I train him to shoot with power. I don't know if it makes any sense, but that's what I do!

As for other traits, I always like 'Tries first time shots' (maybe coupled with shoots with power) while I dread 'Beat offside trap' (I actually like this trait in real life, but in FM it's a disaster and a recipe for strikers going offside at least 5 times every game). 'Goes round keeper' and 'Likes to lob keeper' could also be good for strikers with good technique and flair, though they tend to be pretty rare under current ME (more frequent than FM17 though).

Interested in other people's opinions and experiences on this!

Well when it comes to Beats offside trap I have had mixed results with it. In previous versions I had some success, but mostly it was a bad PPM however in FM2018, as you can see Dembele has that PPM, but he does well with it and is not caught in offside any more than other players, because of it he actually gets a lot of one on ones. I think that PPM relies on tactics a lot for it to be a good PPM and while I would never train it to a player, those who have it, at least in FM2018 have been doing well with it, at least for me.

Good players will still score and generally do well, but for example AF+ beats offside trap can be ugly to watch. In my Serie A save the likes of Belotti, Icardi, Pazzini, Higuain, Matri (all managed by AI) were all between 4 and 6 offsides per game and all equipped with that PPM. My strikers tend to score more without that, especially as AF or P.
