Player abilities in custom league - driving me mad!

Hello,
I've registered here because I'm hoping somebody can help me with a complex problem.

I have created a custom league, with newly-created custom teams, using the data editor. I have used the 'Add Nation Rules' function to create a league structure which replaces the Scottish league system.

I wanted to mimic the level of the Scottish league so I have set the highest tier league reputation to 120 (default SPL is 117), and my top teams have a reputation of 6400 (Rangers' default reputation is 6550). The lowest team, in the third division, has a reputation of just 500.

When I load up the game with my mod installed, the league appears as it should do and works perfectly, with one fundamental exception.

All of the players in all of the teams are created at the same level of ability, regardless of league or club reputation.

I used FMRTE to check on the player abilities - my top clubs in the Premier league have player abilities in the 70-90 range, whereas the default SPL top clubs have players in the 120-140 range. However, the very bottom reputation club also has player abilities in the 70-90 range, which is definitely NOT as it should be.

Has anyone encountered this problem before and could explain to me how to fix it?

I have mirrored the Scottish league in every way I can think of, even with regard to team budgets and stadiums. Is there something I'm not doing?

This is driving me mad because I have a wonderful working league that is practically unplayable due to one flaw which I can't figure out how to fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
Does the lack of replies mean that nobody here has ever created their own custom player and team for an FM game? That's pretty hard to believe.
 
did you actually create the players or did the game create them?
 
I've tried both options.

When I allow the game to create them, it generates low-level players across all the teams.

When I try creating them myself, e.g. giving my top team a player with a CA of 140 using the editor, he appears in the team with all the right stats, etc. but his value is only showing as 30k and he leaves the team almost immediately. When he signs for a new team, his value suddenly rockets to 5 million or something.

It seems such a huge flaw in the editor's functionability, it leads me to believe that it must be something that I've not done, rather than an issue with the editor itself.
 
i don't know if it would help at all but you could try creating a player and giving him a minimum fee release clause so he doesn't go for as little. and the value issue sounds like you've mistyped a reputation somewhere.

set all 3 of his reputations to 140 aswell that will give him a realistic value.
